matulkoh 66
Dont you have any pavements and fields where you live no mate ive got no pavements but ive got four acres if you think you can get a digging dog 110% fit by walking it down some poxy pavement, your a better man than me. when i mean fit irealy mean fit [/q Only pullin your leg fella But seriously ive managed for 18 yrs working terriers that have never seen a treadmill and they can work all day no prob, ive dug to them when they've been to ground through the night and got em out next day a few times n they've still been raring to go, i walk em bout 2 mile every day and work them 3 days a week, they're fit as a fiddle,i can see your point if your stuck for time but i would have thought you'd av to supervise em anyway if they're on a treadmill so you may as well be out wi em,keep yourself fit too Quote Link to post

Bailey 16
To keep terriers fit when digging quits for the year as well as general rough hunting I use a flirt pole. This is brilliant for keeping and building strength and stamina, the dogs love it and its cheap. After they empty themselves 10 - 15 mins work you will have all dogs exercised. Quote Link to post
Guest ratty
do any of you boys on here use treadmills for your terriers how do you find them, are they worth it,and how easy are they to make. if you've got one and can put a few pics up that would be a great help as im thinking of makeing one but dont know where to start tread mill very hard to make i run my terriers on a carpet mill it is very similar to a tread mill but has no motor on it.but if you want to get your terriers bang on fit there is a much cheaper way and you can get them fit in your yard use a flirt pole,it is a light pole approx 6feet long made out of hazel cane or any similar material it has a 2 foot length of cord tide on one end with a fox or rabbit fur tide on to the end then stand still and wave it around and let your dog jump up and chase the fur around within 4 weeks your dog should be extremely fit and if you do a lot of ratting this will sharpen them up a lot that's if they are game and mad enough to chase it some dogs are slow to start this but when they get used to it they will love it i hope this will help you and save you some money carpet mills put mass on a dog, slat mill help improve wind, carpet mills tend to not last very long slat mills longer btw always walk your dog first theres nothing worse than dog shit flying of the back at speed thank you for that information i was telling you what i got not what its for you are right thoe always walk your dog first all the best ratty Quote Link to post
