Hob&Jill 258
Im fairly sure he would have, but if you look at it like that what is the point of gyms, swimming pools (perfectly good lakes and rivers around) etc I dont have a treadmill, but I see there place. Obviously you wouldnt stop walking your dogs, just as an extra to keep them in tip top condition. No harm done? Quote Link to post

Guest ratty
do any of you boys on here use treadmills for your terriershow do you find them, are they worth it,and how easy are they to make. if you've got one and can put a few pics up that would be a great help as im thinking of makeing one but dont know where to start tread mill very hard to make i run my terriers on a carpet mill it is very similar to a tread mill but has no motor on it.but if you want to get your terriers bang on fit there is a much cheaper way and you can get them fit in your yard use a flirt pole,it is a light pole approx 6feet long made out of hazel cane or any similar material it has a 2 foot length of cord tide on one end with a fox or rabbit fur tide on to the end then stand still and wave it around and let your dog jump up and chase the fur around within 4 weeks your dog should be extremely fit and if you do a lot of ratting this will sharpen them up a lot that's if they are game and mad enough to chase it some dogs are slow to start this but when they get used to it they will love it i hope this will help you and save you some money Quote Link to post

matulkoh 66
do any of you boys on here use treadmills for your terriershow do you find them, are they worth it,and how easy are they to make. if you've got one and can put a few pics up that would be a great help as im thinking of makeing one but dont know where to start not a bad thing but i prefere long walks, bikes, swimming and sure hunting, treadmills are great for bulldogs and running dogs for preparing them on race or match, terriers and luchers need to be out as much as they can because it s not just about condition also their resistance against weather, if y always put a terrier on treadmill whenever is outside cold, hot, raining, snowing.... then he may do not want to work in such a weather. Also they always use their noses, they re better with every practice. terrier have to work in all conditions same as his master - this is diggin Quote Link to post

Also they always use their noses, they re better with every practice. terrier have to work in all conditions same as his master - this is diggin i agree with what your saying. the problem ive got is i let them out into the paddock, they empty themselves ,have a run about ,one will find a scrap of meat the others try to take it and then you've got one big fight on your hands. if they find no meat and dont fight they just mooch around sit or sleep. maybe they'r jjust lazy. come hunting time they work hard realy hard not small rabbit earths but big ten to thirty holers sometimes bigger. most of the earhs are on steep banks and are useualy four to say twelve foot deep. the boys who dig around mid wales know the sort of earths that i mean we dont seam to have any other type and to dig to your dog could take three hours upwards. like i said they work hard, dont bay mutch but they get the job done then you can see how fit they realy are. right this is the problem, after a dig they may be off for upto a month to heal they loose thier fitness and conditon and after theyre layoff they are expected to work the same all over again and i dont think walking it down a pavement or a run around the fields can get any terrier 100% working fit. thats why i started thi topic i thought a lot of boys used tread mills why not ? they must be a great help for a terriers fitness Quote Link to post
