After some pigeon advice please

I have a friend who owns five victorian houses in a terrace.

 

Although some of these properties are split by other propery owners so his share are not in a row ,some are, so I am wondering what do I have to do legally to remove a feral pigeon problem from the roofs of the row of houses they are grade 2 listed buildings.

there is good access to the roof and it is safe up there also.

 

I would like to shoot them with my air rifle just need to make sure its ok and I dont get nicked

Blimey, mate! That's a dicey situation! Think about it; You apparrently (with all the best intentions and full and proper permission ' General Liscence ', etc) intend to become a Sniper in a city street. F*ckin ARV could turn up and shoot ye! Never mind nicking ye!

 

Best suggestion I can make would be firstly to get that permission down on paper. Typed up. Properly worded. Signed and dated. K? That's ye Legal arse covered under the General Liscence terms.

 

Then, take that along to ye local nick and ask for an appointment to talk to their Firearms Officer. No good talking to some Desk Sergeant. He's as likely to f*ck ye off out of hand because he doesn't fancy giving ye the OK.

 

Remember; It doesn't Legally matter if you're a professional Pest Controller or not. Ye need to be Authorised. That bit of paper does that. But then ye have to realise that someone WILL spot ye. And they WILL call the Police and you could well end up shot! It's come that damn close with Pro's.

 

The Police may, even then, strongly advise against it. I'd be tempted to listen to them. It's one thing to do it inside a locked factory. Quite another on urban roof tops! How about cage trapping them? That's what I'd do. And I am a pro'!

Why don't you just trap the pigeons in a pigeon trap? I have trpped thousands of them on roof tops just like you have. Do people not know how to do this? It is very simple with the right bait and proper "repeating trap". You often get a dozen or more birds at one check and with food and water in the trap....well, they can last for days without removal unless you're required to remove each day. Much more humane than shooting and safer. The residents probably won't even know you're around!.........VV

it was the british who invented this type of trapping and we are masters at it and get dozens at a time , and over a 100 crows at a time in our cage traps ,

Well then, I stand corrected! That being said, I guess I wondered why this person did not choose to go that route? It seemed easier than the "sniper" gig and less trouble.

Basically because I have a nice set of guns and I wanted to use them, rather than build a pigeon loft

 

But I have been given some good advice and intend to recycle the next discarded shopping trolley and make one myself
