lurcher330 2,301
Me and a friend of mine go down to a place near Ballinasloe a couple of time during the season to a man that keeps a few cattle and conamara ponies he has about 350 acres and he looks forward to use coming down to do a bit of digging in the day and then lamping that night and then puts us up as his house which is a B&B that is how we met him when we were at the horse fair down there with stead in the B&B but the best thing is that he is a retired Guard and his 2 sons are guards at the moment but anything goes with him and we are aload to work away at anything we come across and he likes to work the spade himself sometimes .Just wish they were all like that Edited June 25, 2011 by lurcher330 Quote Link to post

BORDERSCOT 3,816
I can remember me and my mate catching rabbits basically wherever we wanted with my ferrets and his whippet. No one really bothered us and apart from the local gravedigger who ran us ragged when we were chasing rabbits in the graveyard. I can stil picture his wee face getting redder and redder as he jooked among the gravestones trying to catch us and getting more out of breath by the minute. He would roar "c'mere ya wee c**ts - ee've got nae respect for the deid now f**k off". We were left to our own devices really and no one seemed to bother. However, that was 35 years ago - times have changed. You don't see the same amount of kids into ferreting nowadays. I was first shown how to make nets when I was 14 and have never bought a net since. Even when we were in our 20s/30s we could lamp wherever and no one really bothered two hoots as long as you respected livestock and property. The police weren't that interested either. Aye changes days eh? Give the police half a chance now and your f****d!!! Quote Link to post

Jimmy and Family were camped on the Merse at Annan, 3 Quote Link to post

Country Joe 1,411
Jim Black nickname Blako, had bought a greyhound Pup, but it never got any bigger than a Whippet, a bitch called Nell pedigree unknown, this was the first Lurcher I had ever seen, what a hare catcher in small fields, she was killed by a car while chasing a Hare, but Jimmy had taken a litter of her, he kept the smallest, which was about the size of her Dam called Tesa, another great Hare Dog, all the Dogs at that time were lURCHER TO LURCHER MATINGS, WITH THE COLLIE X GREYHOUND BEING POPULAR WITH A COUPLE OF LADS, Quote Link to post

shepp 2,285
I was talking to an old guy and he said he would walk down Staines high street on a Saturday afternoon with a .22 centre fire rifle, uncovered just on a sling over his shoulder and shoot rabbits on the local moor. I hate to think how things will be in 40 years time, I would imagine, no guns no dogs no hunting. Unless we have to arn ourselves to fight a civil war against you know who! 1 Quote Link to post
