HOW TIMES HAVE CHANGED

Recommended Posts

Little incident i recall from when i was about 18 i thought id share with you. At that time i had a whipgrey which i was walking along a country road near where i live now. As a few of the older guys will remember i heard the familiar clicking sound of the local plods push bike (sturmey archer gears and small leather belt fastened on the back hub) anyway he pulls up and said to me can that dog do a hare yes its had a few i said. Right couple of fields down theres a hare in the middle of it he said, fancy giving it a run, any way as i had permission on that land i thought why not. Slipped the dog on it gave a good course for a couple of minutes and said dog didnt disgrace me. Love to see running dogs in action he said, found out later the guy was into falconry and shooting. I also remember in those days you could walk down the street with a shotgun so long as the barrels were broken you didnt get nicked. Saturday afternoons in the pub you could see two or three shotguns propped in the corner of the bar christ could you imagine that happening now. Things have certainly changed and not for the better, can you recall any incidents like these.

It's all gone wrong because the police will take ANYONE on these days, some of the coppers you see walking about don't look old enough to have left school never mind have the power to arrest people! :censored:

And I like a woman in uniform but around here (Wrexham) you see loads of police cars driving around with a couple of young birds in it, I don't remember ever seeing that 10 or 15 years ago. A couple of months ago I was coming back from taking the dog out and two young police women were stood at my gate, one on one side and the other on the other side. I thought they were waiting for me for some reason, I walked up to them and they were gossiping about someone they work with!!!!!! I walked through the middle of them and they just said hello, 15 minutes later they were still there and then walked off in opposite directions, what is that all about?

You give someone who's not earned their position a bit of power and it'll go to their head, hence the arrogant stupid morons that are now in the police force.

A good example of this - my sisters boyfriend is a lorry driver, he was clipping his sun visor back on while driving his lorry and a copper pulled him and accused him of being on the phone, he told him that he wasn't and if he wanted to check he could look through his phone for last texts/calls etc. The copper said "I don't care if you were or not, it's my word against yours and I know who they'll believe" :censored::censored::censored: . So he got the fine and the points and now his work are contesting it by producing phone records etc. He'll probably get them removed but that an absolute joke and just shows what a joke they are! That copper should be sacked for wasting everyones time

There used to be certain places about where I used to live where you were you could more or less do as you wanted with regards to hunting, as long as you were respectful. Like you say, it was nothing to see people walking about the place with shotties or air rifles.

A Saturday morning, January 1969, I was walking back into the town, from a couple of courses, two out of two, and these were first class Hares,

I saw an old friend driving through, in his Black TK Bedford truck, his eyes were popping out of his head, he drove, up to the Howes corner and

turned round to come back and chat with me, his first words, to me that dogs looking well, have you just caught them a said aye, a only give him a couple of runs, because the Lads from Carlisle are coming through tomorrow, for a run (((( for Shaddow, ask John Brough, and he will tell you he was the lad, driving the Tk, I used take the same dog to work with me up on the M6 at SHAP, I had a 12 bore sitting on top of the Paving machine, the Lurcher lying, in the works van, I shot a few grouse up there, and the dog had a few rabbits, on the same motorway, when we were laying road base,

we could have 1000 tonne through our machine by 11am. you could buy 8 pints of best bitter, for a 1 pound, WE had a competition, amongst the dog Lads from Carlisle, I think there was 16 dogs entered, and my dog Shared the prize with a Lad called Tony Henderson, we run out of daylight,on that day the best of 3 again my dog killed two, along with Tonys, dog he collected 2, ((( and not a drop of Saluki blood to be seen, and the craic was great, not a problem from any Land owner, or policemen, in the pub after the coursing, we had a little sing song, and The Late Ted Cooper, give us all THE LINCOLN POACHER, LADS they were the days, very Happy days, (((( and I was out on my bike this morning my dog a Saluki/grey/whippet,bred from worker to worker, we done a nice 6 miles, that was at 5.30am (((( the craic has gone from the dogs, people have changed, and not for the better, I have certainly seen the best days, I dread to think of the next 40 years, (((( I believe there will be very few dogmen about, especially

for running the Hare,

I remember 25 years ago just walking down the street with an air rifle, entering the local woods/rough ground and plinking away, nowdays you would be fecked, also taking the terrier down the local tip and brook ratting, lamping the local fields with a collie dog, permission wasn't even a thing we thought about back then, it didnt't seem a big deal, if the farmer came over, he asked you to piss off and that was that............

I remember at 13 buying a 25 yard salmon net out of my paper money and setting it that first night,I checked it the next morning pulling it in and seeing the silver form of a fish under the water as the net drew in,I had a number of salmon that first morning.Got quite a few over the summer, used the money to buy a single barrel .410 pedretti,a little folding up model, used to carry it under my jacket up to the local woods or wildfowl reserve for roosting pheasants and mallard as they sat illuminated by the moon on the waters surface,f*****g hell, how did we get away with it :laugh:
