lunita 57
Well i know some people will maybe think this is a crap thread..but well least im not talking gay sex like alot seem to be ...lol. Anyway i was wondering what peoples views were on hunting with hounds as an upperclass sport. I have followed hounds since the age of 6 and my parents and we are totally normal and working class, and i know most people that hunt know that the 'upper class label' is rubbish. Most people that follow on foot and some on horses are totally normal people not rich at all , plus the foot and fell packs dont even have horse followers that are traditionaly seen as the rich followers. Yet i noticed in the press when talking bout hunting they mostly mention the horse followers, and if i tell anyone even people into country sports that i hunt i sometimes have people think you must be rich to do that!!. Ive noticed on thl that you dont get as many people making threads about hunting with hounds as you do other topics such as lamping etc which seem to be more popular. I s this because people think it is a snobby sport or maybe its just that people find it easier and more satisfying to own their own dog and hunt it ( legally of course ) than following a pack of hounds with people that can be up themselves. Just wanted to find other peoples opinions if they have them as to me it doesnt seem snobby at all but maybe people might be put off going if they thought it was. harryshounds 984
theres defo a class divide in britian when it comes to hounds, but its mostlty stirred by the press and the politicians. in ireland there is no class divide cos we have a much stronger foot pack and trencher pack tradition. whereas most huntinh in britian you need a horse(therefor cash) in ireland by far and away the most hunting is done on foot by trencher fed packs( a pack where by members keep a hound or two each and meet up at weekends to hunt). gonetoearth 5,144
ive all ways found most hunts very welcoming most treat new comers with an air of caution thses days who can blame them yes there are a few pompuss barsteawards but go to any golf club then you will meet jumped up fooookers a plenty hunting can be a cliky affair but when your face gets known and you gain the trust of the locals barriers come down , , most mines had a pack in the glory days of mining many army regiments had foxhounds and the liverpool/scotch had a otter pack based in ireland , hunting has allways had its upperclass packs , theres a few footpacks that can be a bit up them selve to
BULLDOUG 199
depends on what you class as rich,Iv,e not got a pot to piss in,but think I,m rich due to my Family. Even when the work was good I would still class my self as financialy poor,no real expendable income after morgage,Kids etc.Keeping a truck on the road is a luxury at the moment ,but need it or I would be up shit !creek,so to pay for a horse, livery etc. yes I think you would be financialy rich, would it make a difference to me hunting NO! if I was treated with the same courtesy an respect I gave out,Snobbery in all its forms is shit! I once was accussed by Nigel Tinkler, trainer of having a thing against monied people, because off my background, had to explain wasn't my background it was the attitude towards my background from monied people. POOR = UNENLIGHTENED.they were so wrong,But the pecking Order in the lower classed forms of Hunting I would say is worse, On the day of the English ban,I spent the day in the company of Johnny Scott,Willie Porter Two genuine Hunting men with not a bit of class snobbery in their bones.. I thank God every day for my family and all the good things i have, no matter how hard life gets at times, always stop to smell the Roses mate When all the fruit has been picked and the last fish caught the rich will realise "you cant eat money" Rich or poor, our shit stinks the same. Any self respecting hunter wears realtree to all gamefairs and lurcher shows Hunitng with hounds seen as an upper class sport? I'd say to those opposed or indifferent to hunting then yes, they see it as an upper class sport and in my opinion most have more of a problem with the supposed "toffs" than hunting itself. For those of us who have been hunting we know that folk from all walks of life follow hounds
