My surviving youngsters.

The three with wigs are almost identical apart from one has both wings green. One has a left green wing, the other has a right green wing. One is a very pale yellow, one a vibrant yellow and one a very orange yellow, red factor male slipped in me thinks! I did see him feeding the fledglings with the other male who was also feeding them and the hen?

The 3 of them together..

With the hen...

The last chick bless it's heart is a rather drab green, but i think it has a pretty face.....with the mother hen.

The hen responsible for the above is a bit of a wise old girl, caught her mating with the red factor, but is nesting her 2nd clutch with the original male again, so she has 2 males helping!

Some of the others.

The two other hens who lost their chicks are sitting again. One has one egg (lost the other ones) and is sitting in a bird bath full of seed???

The other has 3 eggs and is in a feeding dish full of seed, they have refused to use the proper nesting pans.

Most of these canaries will be looking for homes soon if anyone takes a fancy to them.

They look great. Could be there was mites in their nest sites? That's why they won't go back again, or are they scared of the mice? I used to make hanging nest sites from bits of weld mesh which hung down from the aviary roof on thin wires: entwined bits of conifer all through the mesh: birds loved those site better than anything else.

Everything was frontlined Sky, new bedding etc etc. I suppose the nests were not safe in their minds?

Found the successful hen trying to bully one of the other hens off her nest the other day, she is quite near her (in a feed dish)

Sounds a great idea, too late this year but a good one for another time....IF i keep any hens, been a bit stressfull  But they are causing problems for me managing the Serama growers, having mother hen canaries with chicks. Without chicks i can just shoo the canaries into the coop, lock them in to allow the Serama access to the garden, cannot do that when they are sitting on or feeding young.

A good home is more important, somewhere with an aviary as these birds are used to flying semi free
