My ideal NV set up - at last

Recommended Posts

At last after many years I have the ideal set up for me for both rabbiting and foxing. It is my personal choice of course but having read posts about NV I thought I would contribute with a post

Spotting - I have an envis monacle which is excellent and an ir illuminator that screws to the envis for use when the grass is high , this illuminates the eyes of both rabbits and foxes.

Rabbiting: 3 different permatations, I have a CZ 452 American for use during both daylight and darkness. Daylight:A S&B Zenith scope with red dot illumination works in very low light and then I can add a Catapult V2 torch supplied by Invotech which is very Powerful, quick to set up, wire free and effective out to the ranges I feel confident with at night. I can also attach the envis to a DSA and use the 452 from a bipod or shooting stick. I also have a Ruger 10/22 with a dedicated Pulsar n550 digital sight which I tend to use because I have never been really comfortable with the DSA set up when walking around.

Foxing: because of the terrain I have only ever needed a CZ527 .22 Hornet, the maximum range would only be out to 125-150 yards because with my eyesight thats the range I feel comfortable and effective with. I load my own V-max 35g rounds. I have the choice of using the DSA and the Envis or using the Catapult V2 torch, both effective when sat out with a bipod.

When i bought the torch I was not aware of the dedicated torch for lamping supplied by Invotech with all the filters etc but I manage quite well with the one I bought.

some very nice kit fella your not going to get much better unless you spend ALOT of money i would add a pvs 3x lense (push fit and fit the envis so can quickly be removed if attaching to scope) for spotting but think you got it sorted

The hornet is also a cracking cal me mate uses one foxing and bunnying and it's done him proud plus there cheap to reload.

How do you rate the pulsar agaist your envis on a scope?

Claretclass, what scope mount do you use for the catapult v2? I've got the catapult v3 but Im struggling to find a suitable mount as the body is 30mm so choice is limited.

Well done on the tools sounds like your well equiped! :notworthy:

Why not buy these, normal mount on scope and off set on the V2

This is what Im currently looking at. They do a 25mm scope mount with a rail attached but not 30mm so would have to use the 30mm mount with weaver grab and bit of rail like you suggest. I could mount it directly above the scope as my laser is off set but I think I'll buy the offset mount as it may fit straight on my piccatinny rail on the gun but I would prefer the quick release type mounts for changing scopes so I could leave the scope mount and rail on the gun and then just add the torch with QR mount. Any idea of where to get a cheap 30mm quick release weaver mount? I don't fancy paying the price for leupolds etc.

sako will give you a bell later and let you know how to do it for under £30

I haven't put in the order yet but I think it's sorted, If I use the 30mm ring with weaver rail attached and cut the weaver grab off the bottom I can use an extremely high reach 30mm mount for the torch but I can't attach a pic for some reason. I haven't got the quick release lever I want but at least the torch will clear the scope.

No need to phone you now as that is the way to go

I prefer the Pulsar for ranges up to 60-70 yards simply because its quicker for me to aquire and shoot when walking about, particularly when on the Ruger which is short and light (16" barrel, hogue stock). I prefer the Envis on the Hornet when sitting out with a bipod. I rate the Pulsaar up to 70 metres and the Envis after that. The limitation is my eyesight which is slowly failing ( I am an old fart) particularly at night. It is a completely different experience white digital against the green IR NV but a deadly combination.

I used to have a D121M from Soviet Bazaar (rip) which was a gen 2 which I thought was fine until I got the Envis and the difference is amazing.

Invotech supplied me with a single aluminium body which replaces the two supplied as part of the catapult V2, I think they were experimenting to see if it could be adapted. The fitting attachment is the same one that they use on their advertised gun lamp. I can fit it onto a 1" or 30mm scope because I am fortunate to have a few nylon and rubber rings supplied by Soviet Bazaar when I purchased my D121M and DSA some years ago. Feel free to contact Invotech and quote my name and location, the should have it on record. ( Cassidy, Burnley). - best regards
