Bee sting

Hello all,

I didn't see it happen but suspect the dog was stung by a bee. He was hanging around the flowers in the garden all morning where the bees congregate; I assume that that is what happened. He doesn't seem in pain, though his chin and lip are swollen and he seems to be licking at it. Any ideas?

Applying a weak mixture of water and baking soda to the affected area will help reduce the pain. You can also wrap ice or an icepack in a towel and apply that to the wound to reduce swelling and ease any pain.

I keep a couple of Piriton tabs in my phone case in case of beestings and snake bites.

Ive given kids piriton before when a terrier got stung in the mouth.

my patterdale pup got stung on the head and her hole head swelled up and she looked like a staff with no eyes but i gave her a zertec that my son uses for hay fever and the swelling soon went down

I tried the baking powder/bicarb and water suggestion and the lip swelling went almost straightwaway. He wouldn't stay near the ice pack though! His throat/chin was still swollen a little so planned to go and get some piriton/antiH from the vets the next day (as was the evening by the time i read the posts) but the next day the swelling was all gone.

 

Only prob now is he fell down a 20 foot mini cliff into a streambed chasing a cat in the woods. Now he is limping intermittently, so looks like a trip to the vet is needed anyway! Don't you just love em?
