Dameize 7
Im getting my ferrets tomorrow and figured id go around the butchers and get some scrap meat what they dont want. Can anyone tell me what I should ask for and what they typically enjoy?. im guessing it will be mostly bones with bits of meat on it etc. Ill also give it general food just figured meat would be better so I should see what I can get. cheers. Unfortunately no. I say getting but its a 90% chance id say. Someone I called said to call tomorrow night and go through and someone else in the same town said theyd let me know what theyve got left tomorrow so hopefully the one in the town will have some I can get if not ill have to hope the other guy has some . To be honest though I was intending to just feed them meat but i googled it and its full of people saying its bad for them which is clearly a load of crap. I intended on feeding them kibble and just other bits and pieces to be honest along with some bits of meat and bones etc from the butchers. Quote Link to post

Col_c88 41
so.. should i not bother phoning me mate about those ferrets then sorry ive not had time had alot of baby stuff to sort out .. and i rang him the other day he was flying his hawk so didnt answer and was too busy to ring him back. (though you did say you couldnt have any till august time ish) if your only in spennymoor i have some young rabbits, but you will have to keep them in the freezer.. ive got a bag full of day old chicks i could part some with aswell but there not a staple diet just something to throw in to keep them fed when your short on stuff (imo), again.. keep them in the freezer.. failing that the dry ferret food is good, they do like it alot. Eggs, Cheap minced meat 98p from asda or tesco, cheap chicken, turkey... anything except pork as that has alot of salt on it... my ferrets get :- Young Rabbit/pigeon/squirrel when ive got them.. lasts them about 1.5 days.. i half a adult rabbit... i believe the fur is a source of fibre for them so as long as there gutted and been in the freezer (and de frosted) before feeding thats fine Minced meat/chicken/turkey when theres some in the house dry Ferret food mixed with that paste stuff i mentioned in an earlier thread Egg/day old chicks (one or the other) when im really stuck for food ALWAYS fresh water so.. just raw meat that isnt salted something to consider: Ferrets (at least mine and all others ive seen) dont just eat for the sake of eating.. if you put food infront of a dog most dogs will scoff it.. (mine doesnt oddly enough) ferrets will eat when there hungry.. just something nice to know i think. Edited June 24, 2011 by Col_c88 Quote Link to post
Dameize 7
thanks col, i originally thought august was the soonest but ive managed to persuade the grandparents so I can get them now. I was also going to get some off dotty in a couple of weeks but I cant wait that long as im fairly excited to be honest lol. But yeah im only in spennymoor like I said though I cant keep rabbits in the freezer or anything else like that as my grandparents will put their foot down since its their house. Ill just have a look over the butchers and see what asdas got etc. Thanks for the offers though. Where abouts are you located in durham (if you dont mind me asking) as I might take you up on the offer of the rabbits in a few months time when I can actually keep them. cheers. Quote Link to post

Dameize 7
im in wingate till' we get a house in peterlee mate.. bout 12 mile from spenny. ah nice, the ferrets that im meant to be getting are in spennymoor also but he said he doesnt know what hes got left and will have to tell me a bit later in the day. If that falls through Ill have to go to bishop, its not that far but obviously the same town will be easier. If I do get them tonight then Ill probably feed them some chicken and egg or something. Im sure ill learn what they dislike soon enough. Quote Link to post
HUnter_zero 58
Must be honest and say that I don't feed raw meat at this time of year due to maggots. My lot get an egg each once a week & complete kibble which they free feed from. John Quote Link to post
MickyB 327
ideally mate you want carcas (full rabbit) and FERRET kibble if your short, if theirs any way you could catch em that would be best but proper ferret dry food will be fine but i feel that if your working them then they need to know what rabbit tastes like Quote Link to post
