banjorabbiter 2
looking for suggestions on which type of terrier to get next it will be used for ratting ferreting bushing beating shooting will not be used for earthwork, but needs to have a good nose for marking rabbits up etc so what would be a good steady breed for this type of work? open to all advice/suggestions. banjo Quote Link to post

Bri 81
You beat me to it wilko tango, I don't think there is a better allrounder than the bedlington terrier. It'll be interesting to see what others suggest. bri Quote Link to post
CorkyJohn 808
I'd go for a Border if thats all you require, even stuff not bred from digging lines make sensible, intelligent & easy to train dogs ......... I'd still go for decent lines if available to you Quote Link to post
dogman1 5
Borders are worth thinking about, very intelligent and can b trained to a high standard for the beating and shooting. Heard alot of good things about certain jack russels aswell but I would agree a working stock bedlington would b up got the jobs listed, been pondering on getting one myself Quote Link to post

lurcher330 2,297
mate i think you would be best to look into a cocker or a springer Quote Link to post
TOPPER 1,809
spanial x beagle would be your ideal or bedy x beagle hunt like fck Quote Link to post
Big bald beautiful 1,231
Plummer for ratting, bushing Quote Link to post
banjorabbiter 2
would not be getting spaniel as it would be used for ratting and ferreting . by the way i dont want it to retrieve or anything on the shoot whilst beating just put birds up so terrier would do this atb banjo Quote Link to post
Terrier Sam 297
I'd say a hound x terrier or a plummer? Plummers are renound for their good nose and ratting/rabbiting. I've never had one so I couldn't tell you more than that but I did look into them myself. The reason I decided against it was bacause I wanted a dog for earthwork as well as a bit of ratting etc. there are dogs bred more for what I needed. Hope this helps. ATB Sam Quote Link to post
FightTheBan 1,147
Why pay 3 4 500 for a plummer or border when any run of the mill unwanted terrier will do that job. FTB Quote Link to post
FightTheBan 1,147
Oh and having one dog for all those jobs is a tad naïve. Yes I have seen a few terriers in the beating line but to buy one and expect it to be able to do it I would advise against. You would be better with a spaniel and a terrier to do all jobs well instead of a jack of all trades master of none. Just my opinion. FTB Quote Link to post
