Molly's survivors

Lots of you will have seen photos and know molly is just one of my team of dogs and even though we shouldn't have favourites I have to admit molly is mine. We had a litter of pups last year off my other whippet keeping one back . But I always wanted to have a pup from molly but for one reason or another put off breeding her.

After being nattered off my other half (As he is the one that works her) I agreed the time was right with molly being four I couldn't leave it much longer.

From the start I was uneasy and did wonder what I would do if things went wrong. The timing seemed to be perfect molly was due on the Saturday as I broke up from school on the Friday for a week at home.

I went to the kennel to have a look at her on the Friday morning and she had started whelping, so a late morning in to work and still no puppy's I had to call my partner out from work something didn't seam right.

To cut a long story short molly was taken to the vets at midday to check all was well. Our minds were put at rest and were told she would be fine but if things didn't happen in a couple hours to take her back.

So later on that day we were back something was wrong. Molly had to have the pups taken out and we were told the vet couldn't feel any pup movement

So he was asked to make sure molly was fine and just get the pups out. I was really worried to say the least. I had to leave the room as my partner decided to stay with her. An hour later I went to the door and heard squeaking pups so I went to investigate. On he floor was 9 puppies's so I set about getting them warm and cleaning them up. When we left the vets at 1am that morning I left with molly totally out of it and 9 pups and a tub of milk

So that night I started hand rearing 9 pups. By he next morning I had lost 2 and later on that day another one. By day two I had 5 out of the 6 pups feeding off molly but it wasn't easy up every two hours. 10 days later and I was still feeding one pup but the others were coming on great. But that morning before I had to go back to work that one died. So here are the 5 survivors all doing really well and having there 1st taste of weetabix . Well the only question now is which one to keep as molly will not be able to have any more pups.

I have wrote this manly to point out having a litter of pups can go wrong and it could have easily lost me my best dog and cost a awful lot of money so think twice before planning on a litter

A very big thanks to my thl pals who kept me sane when i thought i was going mad

:tongue2:

fair play to you tracy..glad they are looking well..its good point u made some people dont think before they breed ..my mum and dad have had pups before with pointers when like you u want to keep a line to your original dog...last year they had a litter and the dog had to have a cesarean and cost alot of money lucky they dont care and knew what they were doing and went to vets..people should think before just breeding alot can go wrong..great to see those pups all happy

Cheers for posting this tracey, youve done me a favour my missus wants me to breed my whippet also called molly by the way. But at 5years old ive got great reservations, would hate to lose what has been my best rabbiting dog, hope this will make her think twice. Good luck with the pups certainly look healthy little buggers. :victory:
