Doves and ferals

Recommended Posts

If the weathers good tomorrow im gunna go out and bash some ferals and doves at my cattle farm permission, weathers been shite here lately so im planning on just tucking up inside one of the barns, ill post some photos up tomorrow when i get back

I also have a question, on one of my farms there is a dozen or so feral cats (more now because ive seen kittens) and the farmer mentioned "maybe having something done with them as theyre getting out of hand" has anybody had to deal with a request like this..........how would you tackle the problem and how does the law want you to tackle it??

Before i get the p.c brigade on chewing my lugs off, this issue HAS NOT gone any further than being mentioned to me by the farmer.

I'm not 100% sure, but i think it is legal to shoot feral cats provided you can prove they are feral? Though I'm sure someone will know for sure.

Hi Peter,

Apparently the 'done thing' these days is catch em, whip the nuts off the males and tie the tubes of the females (under general anasthetic of course) and then let them live out they're days without being able to produce more offspring according to a woman who I worked with a few years ago. She's up the ladder of the local CPL.

Not sure of the Legal answer though.

Good luck with the Doves and flying rats

BASC have feral cats on their Mammalian Pest Species list that can be controlled all year using legal methods.

It wouldn't be the nicest days shooting i don't think but looks like you'd be alright legally. Probably best to give someone like BASC a call just to be sure?

I dont think the farmer would have the time to trap them and perform surgery tony lol think he just wants them gone, thats the impression i got off him anyway mate, and i shall no doubt have some fun with those ferals and doves bud

Yes mate, look a bloke called ryan666 up on here, he has some good videos of dove hunting, theres literally 100's on my cattle farm permission, and the farmer sees them as a bigger problem than the ferals

You can shoot feral cats or cage trap and then shoot them (effective), but i'll tell you what, it's not the most pleasant job.

I did see it getting done on a farm where my dad and his mate had permission, not much left of their heads when a 12G goes off  did make me feel abit.............i wouldnt say guilty, but its the thought that people have domestic ones as pets that makes it a bit "different"

Had a few requests to shoot cats but unless there is a cast iron certainty they a feral, they are not worth the potential hassle,,

If they are feral,,,,shoot them. You`re perfectly entitled to .

100% feral mate, the nearest housing estate is well over 6 miles away, and they live on the farm, the farmer assures me of this, plus ive seen where they live and have their young stored, theyve been there for years, increasing in numbers every year, ive watched through the scope as they stalk young bunnies, sneeky little buggers lol theres not doubt they are feral mate
