rapidjenky 97
well for the last 6 or 7 months my dog has been injured. since i got him he has always put 120% into chasing his bunnys and has a bad habbit of getting hurt. normally just grazes, cuts ect but about 6 months ago he bust up his hock on the right side back leg so he has been resting. once he was walking ok i started to walk him again, then short runs. then i decided it was time for a decent run on a bunny so i decided to take him out the week after to give him an easy bunny. then while out for a normal work before i got chance to take him out he bust up his front leg and was layed up again for 3 weeks. only just started walking right again now. then last night he was free running again and has come back with his left hock bust like he did to his right leg. please understand these injures have been cause just buy having a few free runs and he is worse while chasing bunnys. he runs into fences and has ran into a tree before. im at a loss what to do next. do i keep him and just leave him home all the time to get fat and go to waste, he is not a great dog as a pet. do i find him a home knowing full well he has problems and will cause the next owners the same problems. do i just get him PTS and have it over and done with and start a fresh with a new dog. i have 2 other pups, well i have one and my partner has 1 and hers is showing alot more interest in stuff then mine. but i want a dog i can use now who knows the ropes like the one im talking about now. he is perfect for what i need just spends alot more time in his bed not being able to walk then he dose out side. im not the type of person to get rid of a dog because its not what i want. i couldent find him a home knowing he is a problem dog and just passing him on. it will be impossible finding him a good home who would know his problems and take him anyway. it sickens me to even think about killing him. need help in finding a solution. rocky1 942
i think best thing for you and dog now is 2 try and find a pet home jenky mate i know its been hard for you ,but you give him the time and rest and monty still has,nt improved its either that or keep him as pet yourself and like you don,t think he will be a very house dog, somtimes you,ve got 2 be ruthless in this game jenky pal its hard but only you know the right anwser mate ,if it was my dog i would and get it a family home and if not pts,you must have been thinking about for a while mate ,atb in what ever you do mate Quote Link to post

Richie10 345
Let it get fat at home, you have ruled out the other 2 options in your head already. Feed 2 dogs or 3, makes little difference in the pocket. Quote Link to post
rapidjenky 97
everytime he come back limping or hurt i tell my self the next time you do it your gone, but then i give him another chance. its getting to the point now and its not even the proper hunting season and he is layed up. what is it going to be like when im wanting to be out twice a week? im just really pi**ed off at the moment mate, carnt even let him run with the pups never mind let him see a bunny. j1985 1,984
I agree with Richie10, you've obviously got a bond with the dog so keep it as a pet. Not all dogs work out as planned sadly. Quote Link to post
rapidjenky 97
he is around 2 years old now maybe just over. Quote Link to post

whippet 99 2,613
hard decision, the question i would ask myself why is he injurying his self is it the terrain i got him on , is a difficientcy in his bones , muscles etc, is he too head strong . her age! my guess would be his body cant cope with work which means the make up of the dog isnt strong enough for work , muscular bones etc. which means work is not for her as her body cant cope with the strains i would then do what is best for the dog and then you must ask your self more questions, would this dog be good for pet home , making sure you sterilise the dog so it cant be bred from. has yourself got a place and time for this dog- the answer probably not, then i would consider and evaluate would she be better put to sleep for her own sake, the way you got too look at it , some people alive now would sooner be dead, through pain of illness etc. this dog was bred for work but cant , good luck in your decision i hope you make the right one Quote Link to post

He will be happy with just mooching and romping. If you do decide to PTS then no excuse needs to be made to the vet. You have every right to have a dog PTS. Be honest with the vet and it will be done. What have they said regards his injuries so far? Will it cause him problems now? in the future? Quote Link to post

Cold Ethyl 63
If you cant keep him then get him a pet home just be careful who you rehome too or see if a rescue can take him theyre likely to at least do some investigations into why he gets injured so easily.Could be as people have said a defieciency or something did you get him as a pup?Maybe hes too keen when i first got my bitch she was forever scuffing her feet and stoppers badly cos she turns to quick and now shes over it she very rarely hurts herself she was laid up for 8 weeks after a mysterious limp never did find out what it was she was x rayed and what not as wel but no joy never happened since so didnt let it worry me.
