Butchers pork scraps ?

Recommended Posts

After reading the threads on this sitei have changed my attitude to feeding dried food for both my dogs and ferrets and have provided meat and bone as staple. On a recent visit to the butchers he gave me some lamb scraps, and said i have nothing else except pork and thats no good, i told him to chuck it in and that the dogs would eat it (i would not feed it to the ferrets as i was always told not to). He then said, "i wouldnt if i was you" , and two old women in the shop began joining in as well, saying it would make the dogs sick :icon_redface: I beat a retreat without the pork !

Should i have stayed a entered possibly heated and violent debate with the two old ladies ........ or were they right ?

They were probably voicing their own, quite genuine and heart felt, concerns based around a 'folk conciousness' idea of worms.

Raw pork is notorious for passing on worms and, yes, in days gone by it could well have ended up with some things a tad more serious!

However, with the controls in place at modern day abbatiors ~ or Tony's Centralised Hub, as it is now ~ there's precious little chance of a 'Tricky Pig' getting into the food chain and thus your Dogs.

Having said that, you did well to beat a retreat. It's one thing for someone to come on here and type out, " Ditch Shitter's a c***. He doesn't know what he's talking about. " Ditch Shitter doesn't care about that. But to good as stand there and say the same to the man who's helping feed ye Dogs? Ye don't want to insult and upset him ;)

My advice would be, next time ye go in there, point out that he was of course perfectly correct and that the parasitic possibilities of uncooked pork have now been pointed out to you. Thank him for his sage advice. Perhaps mention your grattitude to his customers too. Butter him up! He'll feel righteous and may well then feel inclined towards largesse with the lamb! :D

It's all about handling people.

i never feed pork, wild or tame to my dogs it goes right through them and they get bugga all out of it, it's ok if ya just low on tucker but as an ex butcher i've seen the burns ya get from cutting up tame pork and you can keep the shit. feeding pig heads to ya dogs can be the worse part, all the glands and the risk of ya dog breaking a canie on the pig teeth is something to consider.
