gamerooster 1,179
they do make good crosses if they are out of the right stuff and have had the work put into them, what you put in is what you get out 2 Quote Link to post
Rake aboot 4,936
Yes Seen lots of good hard Saluki crossed doing it all Quote Link to post
dirtwinger 235
I am leaning more and more in favour of saluki cross dogs, but i course hares in a desert so it makes sense for me. They do bring toughness especially in the feet and have great stamina and heat resistance. But for trainability you have to get it from somewhere else. For me collie/grey x saluki is a perfect mix when you get a dog that has all the good traits of the various breeds and none of there faults. Worst case scenario is a dog that is very nervous, doesnt listen has greyhound feet and overheats. Best case is a dog that is very smart and easy to train, is tough as nails, fast and doesnt overheat and can go all day. 2 Quote Link to post
Guest dances
My dad was given a saluki/grey in the 80s because it was killing cats on a farm and was apparently a top class fox/deer/hare dog Quote Link to post
coursing_lad 45
Good all rounders , like marmite , love them or hate them , like any cross. Quote Link to post
Gaz_1989 9,539
I've got a saluki/whip/grey He is very fast, at 9 months old he is faster than alot of other dogs both off the mark and top end. He will walk and run all day long. He has got good feet and is not nervous at all. Training has been difficult and patience is a must, it is just starting to come together now but I think it will be another 12 months before I say I am happy with his obedience. border lad 1,047
the saluki blood crossed into the collie/grey has improved, the running ability, more Stamina, a faster recovery, rate, and stronger feet, this is all for Edible game, the Saluki, is little more temperamental, requires more patience, they are the new member of your family, they want to be with you at all times, they require more attention, and yes they learn fast, some times a little reluctant to give it to you, but they have it, A good nose, great eye sight, and very good prey drive, (((( in answer the Saluki blood, has improved the running dog/Lurcher,((( without question, 2 Quote Link to post

watchman 256
Saluki based lurchers, do they make good lamping dogs all quary (pre ban). Baiscaly alrounders. Whats your views on these Atb maitland not a generalisation in any way as iv only seen a few working but in answer to your question, yes they can make very good all-rounders,lad i know ran a couple and both excelled on the lamp as well as daytime,ok the retrieve was a bit hit and miss with them but other than that they could run all night with good sound feet and were generally injury free, they both took fox single handed and made short work of them they seemed to hate fox with a passion ,all other game was caught regularly and i would class the pair of them good old pot-fillers Edited June 21, 2011 by watchman Quote Link to post
rolysmate 49
I had a greyhound/colliegreyhound x saluki 26" and the best all round dog I"ve ever owned, took everything you put in front of him and could distinguish between things that bite back and those that dont. He lived to 14 and never killed a rabbit all where retrieved live to hand, hares generally were dead and everything else he mullered. Terrific prey drive and great nose---pretty certain he"d have gone through fire for me. Quote Link to post

Romany 1,065
There are good and not so good all rounders as there are good and not so good coursing dogs, ferreters etc. all rounders of this breeding may suit some people but not others, but there shouldnt be anything stopping them from doing it all to some level 1 Quote Link to post
