David B Allen 0
Accuracy International AW .308 I've read online reviews from shooting pros and viewed many YouTube video's but I want to throw it out there and I'd like to hear from anybody who has one or has had the chance to use one. Where did you get it from, new or second hand and did you get any discount off list price. What total package do you use or used. Dealer service. How happy are you with the shooting platform. I know there are loads of Remington 700 .308 with Accuracy International upgrade stock Etc. but it not the same thing by a long shot. Thanks for you help Edited June 20, 2011 by David B Allen Quote Link to post
PlasticJock 539
Can't comment from a civilian point of view, but I use one in .338 and consistently hit targets out to 1200m. The system itself is worth the money, and I'll be getting one in a few years. We use schmidt and bender scopes, and I must say even though the calibre is different, the difference between it and our old rifle is amazing. Hope this sort of helps. Quote Link to post
danw 1,748
I used a mates a few times but for me although it was fantastically accurate and built I found I disliked the stock I found it great for prone work but far to dictatorial for any other position I guess it really depends on your application I would look at the RPA if it is for hunting over range work Quote Link to post

Thanks for you very professional point of view. we didn't have the AI AW .338 during my time. I wouldn't think of putting anything else but a Schmidt & Bender on a Accuracy International platform. Thanks again Quote Link to post
pestcontrol121 11
Dave whats it going to be used for mainly ? (someone is bound to say shooting lol) Quote Link to post
David B Allen 0
Dave whats it going to be used for mainly ? (someone is bound to say shooting lol) I do alot of long range targets / steel plates out to 1000 Meters; I know if it'll do that it'll be OK for my Highland red deer stalking. Many pro shooters can't look past the shooting platform I'm looking to hear from normal shooters before I spend upwards of £5000-00 on a total platform. Quote Link to post
PlasticJock 539
Have you considered the .338 calibre? I've used a lot of 7.62 but I understand it's different from .308, the BC of .338 is unbelievable, I understand you can also homeload to make a slow, heavy round for close range deer work, but for longer ranges, especially targets, I definately think it's gaining popularity. You've got me thinking now . . . . the difference between 7.62 & .308 in my view isn't worth shouting about but the step up to .338 I agree has it's advantages and the cost isn't much different. I'll hazard a guess you're using a 27" fluted barrel, tactical muzzle break, Picatinny top rail and the adjustable cheek & butt. Quote Link to post

For that sort of price of £5,000 i would have one built Dave, i would be contacting Lee at http://www.border-barrels.com/varmint_rifles.htm I have a Accuracy International stock on my custom built .243 which i shoot off the roof of my disco and have shot from the shoulder which is OK but a bit to heavy so got two bipod at 6 to 9 for disco and a 12 to 27 harris for walking which is much better. PlasticJock 539
Yes David that's the one with a sound moderator every now and again. I would definately look into it, the main thing for me is that even at longer ranges the .338 is very slippery, doesn't seem to be affected as much by wind. So wether hunting or target shooting, I would say it offers you confidence to stretch the range that bit further, and as I already mentioned if you reload then you can have that flexibility regarding ammo. All Accuracy International rifles are hand built to the required spec. the more information I receive the better; thank you. Quote Link to post
coldweld 65
Why not the AE ? do you treat your rifle like a Squaddie ? as that is what the AW is built for if you life is on the line spend the extra Or if you have the cash after all its your money ! But i have the AE and it is so accurate it can be too easy to Vbull. Mk 2 now is 10 shot. Quote Link to post

I was also looking at the AI AE MK11 . . . there are just a few more option available on the AW and if I go .338 it'll have to be the AW platform . . . I'd like to think I treat my rifles with respect. I take it you're very happy with your AI AE . . . . Thank you for your input Quote Link to post
markha 99
An associate of mine whos ex Poole and is a long range marksman is extremely enthusiastic about his Rangemaster/Nightforce combination and he certainly knows his ballistics and shoots in the 1000m+ category. Also, if you have not come across it yet then head to UK Varminting as its all about long range. Also Precision Rifle Cheers Mark Quote Link to post
