Taken on board advice... now need some more! Rabbit cooking recipes.

Recommended Posts

Bit of an apologetic thread and want to make a new start with some of you that I probably came across as a bit of a twat on the other one - so just wanted to clear the ground and get some new advice!

Wasn't quite sure where to put this post so I'm sorry if it's in the wrong topic area :icon_redface: So sorry for being such a noob.

Last time I was on here, I clearly didn't go down too well - Sorry about that. Taken all advice onboard, got a better scope and spent a lot more time shooting targets, now I've left school I've alot more time on my hands to mess about so my shooting has improved quite a bit. And now it's the other way round! Haven't had an unclean kill I've been out since the last time - taking more time lining the crosshairs up and getting a lot closer than I was previously. So now I'm not on here to get advice about my shooting, but the cooking. :D Went out about an hour ago with my mate, had a few possible shots but decided to leave them as they were a bit iffy. Just as it was getting to where you almost couldn't see the cross hairs, there was a rabbit down in the dip on the farm and I shot at it, went straight down. :D nice clean kill with very little blood (I'm a bit of a pansy when it comes to blood) so decided to try my hand at skinning it - after watching dad doing it for over 10 years, I knew the basics and it went rather well - some near chucking up moments dealing with the insides but once the stomach and intestines were out it wasn't too bad. Got it home and cleaned it up - a few nicks to the meat where I was a bit heavy handed with the knife but nothing that's caused it to be inedible. So now just wondering if anybody has any decent recipes for cooking it? nothing too complicated as I'm hardly the Gordon Ramsy of my house - just a simple stew or frying it if thats possible? anything really that'll do for a nice free range meal. I've had a look in the recipe area, just wondering if there was any others, and it's only one rabbit - so I doubt it's going to feed more than me

Thanks, Laurence.

Heres a couple of pictures of my efforts (sorry theres none from the permission or skinning on the field - I don't have a flash on my phone camera and didn't have my proper camera with me.)

EDIT - Meant to say, Bought some Napier UPH pellets and cannot fault them! best ones I've used, will go straight through the rabbit, and pack a nice punch.

Boil rabbit strip off bone, chop an onion, garlic fry them in olive oil season with salt and pepper. Add 1 bottle of cider and a cup of cream very slowly simmer until reduced. I sometimes add tomato purée to add additional flavour but that's to taste. Enjoy...

Thankyou man, sounds tasty! I'll be giving that a go. Found this recipe after a bit of googling - sounds quite tasty so I thought I'd share -

1 rabbit, cut up

2 T. salt

3 eggs, beaten

2 c. flour

1/2 tsp. salt

1/4. tsp pepper

Cut up rabbit.

In a lg. pot, fill about half way with water. Add 2 T. salt, and bring to a boil. Add rabbit, and parboil for 1/2 hr. Drain and let cool.

Beat eggs in a bowl.

Put flour on a plate, and mix with salt and pepper.

Dip rabbit pieces, one at a time, into egg, and then flour mixture.

Meanwhile, on high, heat 1/2" of oil in a lg. cast iron frying pan.

When oil is hot, add rabbit pieces, one at a time into the oil.

When one side is golden, flip over to the other side. Cook until golden brown and crispy.

Drain each piece on a paper towel, to soak up grease.

Serve hot, with your favorite side dish.

Serves 1-2 depending on appetite.
