f mac 40 Posted June 19, 2011 Report Share Posted June 19, 2011 depends on what u gona use it for r u interested in going to earth or u happy on rats and bunnys how much do u want to spend i just used my lurchers when ferreting but my 1st dog was a heinze 57 x terrier type from the dog pound great wee dog and for no money or u can spend a few hundred quid on a russell and look the part .its a quandry aint it Quote Link to post

tubba 38 Posted June 19, 2011 Report Share Posted June 19, 2011 I just use my Whippet and Lurcher when im out if theres something in the dogs won't move from the bury. If the dogs don't show no interest i won't even bother dropping a Ferret in. Once you have a bond with your dog and you've been a few times you will learn to trust his instincts. It saves a lot of time and unnecassary netting up. Quote Link to post

darbo 4,776 Posted June 20, 2011 Report Share Posted June 20, 2011 if you want a terrier for ferreting not a lurcher i would go for a bedlington.i use one for ferreting not fast enough to catch a healthy rabbit on the run. but he is a first class marking dog.i cant use a lurcher on my ferreting permission but this little dog never lets me down. Col_c88 41 Posted June 21, 2011 Report Share Posted June 21, 2011 me mate uses a beddlingtons for ferreting and ive never seen nout like it.. the mother of the 2 wont budge from a hole if theres somethign in it and shes lightning quick to grab the rabbit.. she just pins it down till' he gets to it, she totally ignores the ferrets. he has to keep her sepearate from other dogs though as shes a bit mental.. been knocked over.. scars all over off god knows what (beddlingtons get black fur where theres a scar apparantly..lost her tail the lot but what a dog.. she just never gives up! The younger of hers is getting there now too, never seen her wrong on mark and is pretty quick when im back on my feet i will be training my patterdale up with help from advise from Ideation (thanks again) if your anywhere near the north east the younger one has just had some pups hes selling. his dogs are all excellent workers. funny.. i didnt know bedlington terriers where black when they were first born o.0 Quote Link to post
