Mustelid 143
Hi, A friend of mine has a litter of kits and a fortnight ago their rear ends prolapsed. The kits seem absolutely fine in themselves, eating as much meat as you can give them. Their prolapses aren't massive but still concerning. Have any of you good folk seen this before? Suggestions as to how we can fix it? Thanks Quote Link to post
AlbionLass 2
Can sometimes be caused in kits by food that is too dry, often by feeding dry kibble too early. If they've been fed just meat then maybe they've been tackling bone too early or not getting enough moisture content from the meat for some reason. I've heard of people having success treating minor prolapses in kits using Germaloids ointment, don't have any personal experience of this though. They were on dry dog food intially and the food probably wasn't top quality... Quote Link to post
forest of dean redneck 11,781
baby skunks get prolapses from wet food when their weaned, a breeder told me to dust the prolapse with icing sugar which sucks the moisture up so it shrinks and it should go back in within half hour if not gently push it in with a clean finger , take the piss all you want you lot, my ex wife done it with the baby skunk she had off him. Sj hunter 0
Never had it in a litter of kits but had it with a Jill who had just give birth £100 it cost me at the vets but all survived the price we after pay some times for our little hunting partners. Quote Link to post

HUnter_zero 58
Purchased a young Jill, three weeks down the line she had what we thought was a Prolapse, £100 vet fee and it turned out to be a tissue mass. Still got the girl, in fact she is the only ferret I have ever seen with vertigo, lovely girl she is as well. John Quote Link to post
