jonesy 111
Got a day of work on friday so decided to have a walk over some new ground to see if i could get a dig.I took an older bloke with me who used to work the same area before he packed the terriers in.Every sett that we found had evidence of badgers so we didnt even get a spade in the ground,i can only summise that the lads on who have got the shooting rights on the other side of the water are taking all the foxes out,its alright walking about with a big rifle and scopes that you cant miss with if thats your thing but they should think of other lads who want to graft their dogs. jpnixon 7
too easy to shoot a fox with a rifle no work in it and 99% of the time they dont even go up to see thier fox where they shoot it they leave it, But if they have permission there is feck all ye can do about it. waz77 15
Ive got a .22.250 and three fell terriers, have to say i'd much rather be working the terriers, you can't release a pregnant vixen thats been shot with a .22.250,and you cant shoot foxes down an hole, but each has its place and each to his own,but the rising popularity of lamping with rifles is doing the fox population serious harm in some places,JMO Quote Link to post
tom.k 8
SORRY WAZZ GOT ABIT EXCITED I HAVE HAD A FEW BUT THEIR SEEMS TO BE ASHORTAGE OFF TERRIERMEN IN MY PARTS S0 IGET ALOT OFF REQESTS FROM FARMERS TO LAMP AT NIGHT BUT I DO AGREE WITH YOU SOMETIMES I WOULD LIKE THE CHOICE TO RELEASE SOME OFF THEM AND NOT SHOOT THEM INTO ANIALATION AND I HAVE DEFENALEY NOT SEEN AS MANY THIS YEAR THAN LAST Quote Link to post
waz77 15
No worries dude We all need to be resposible and play it by ear as far as controling foxes goes, nobody wants foxes wiped out but if there's too many we're not doing our job properly, and every area is different,in some places they need to be shot in numbers, like i say there's a place for hunting and shooting and we should stick together,if we all do it sensibly there should be enough sport for all, keep up the good work wether you work dogs or shoot Quote Link to post
tom.k 8
TO TRUE WE SHOLUD ALL STICK TOGETHER RIFLE MEN AND TERRIERMEN THEIR IS APLACE FOR BOTH HAPPY HUNTING WAZZ Quote Link to post

Guest ratty
Aaaaaw - a happy ending. stick together how can you say that the rifle will wipe out are Foxes it is so easy to shoot them its like shooting traffic lights most of them are failed dog men and that's that .I can remember [bANNED TEXT] i could go and dig 2 or 3 not now and why is everybody else moaning about the lack of foxes i no boys with rifles that have shot 17 in 1 night you have got to think how many boys there are with rifles you will only kill a fox once and most of these boys are going out all year round there are some places like keeper ed ground were you got to control the foxes i respect that its there job i don't agree with the mass slaughter of our fox population Quote Link to post
Tallyho 181
ive got to agree with you there ratty, Quote Link to post
jpnixon 7
I have been out shooting foxes and deer with a rifle otherwise i wouldnt post about it. The [bANNED TEXT] has a 22 hornet, i have also been out shooting them with a shotgun and i reacon that if ye want to lamp and shoot foxes use a shotgun as there is more sport in it but for the rifle it should be kept for deer. I'd agree with that,to be honest if no one ever shot another fox i'd be a happy man,im more into my terriers and hunting, but every one has a right to choose, i just wish the lampers would spare more of a thought for other hunters, maybe go for a more challenging quarry/rifle combo, after all its probably harder stalking rabbits with a rifle in daytime than lamping foxes at night, and deer stalking certainly is.Shooting foxes sometimes needs to be done, but dont over do it. T.F.Student 0
Happens every year with us Jonesy...its a ball ache...but you get used to it. Up the fell they come, clearing out the holes as they go. If there's a dead sheep, they may stay a week or two, but then they go back down again. Its as if they get sick of eating beetles and whatever else they can scratch up. There just isn't the food supply to hold them up top for long. Sometimes he kindly makes it really obvious he's in residence Quote Link to post
