foxfan 479
Back to the op, can anyone give a definitive reason why we are in Afghanistan? I dont buy into the 'war on terror' bs, as far as i'm aware all muslim terrorists have been homegrown? Does anyone on here know of anyone who's been affected by terrorism, i rekon your more likely to die on a golf course, statisticaly speaking.

Does anyone on here know of anyone who's been affected by terrorism, i rekon your more likely to die on a golf course, statisticaly speaking. In 2001 I worked for a local aerospace company making seats for the business class section of 747's & my wife was 4 months away from giving birth to our second child. I remember listening dumbfounded there in the workshop on 9/11 as they relayed the news of the attack on Radio 1. 1 month later as a result of the mass global panic with regards to air travel, I along with 3/4 of the rest of the staff & management were handed our P45's as the company frantically tried to downsize itself to survive in the wake of a sudden mass cancellation of orders for aircraft parts. So yes, you could say that I was indirectly affected by terrorism. Try asking some of the victims families of 9/11or the 7/7 London bombings the same question... foxfan 479
Sorry to hear you lost your job. I dont wish to demean the suffering of those who have been affected, but i think its a relevant question. imho the risk does not justify the measures taken. We should be looking closer to home. scothunter 12,609
in a nut shell its a gas pipe line from some sea cant remmeber now.anyway the best possible way is through afghanastan.however tey wont invest billions of pounds/dollars in the pipeline, while the taliban is still in control.well thats what i make of it all anyway.if its not the main reason, its defo a major factor in the equation.as for terrorisim it has affected us all,in some way or other in our everyday life.I see more cops carrying H/K submachine guns than i ever did.airports are a f*****g nightmare and look at all the new legislation in place (which is a good thing)although a bit tiresome.oh and not forgetting the vast amounts of our cash going into this conflict.so yes it does affect us all. If Afghanistan falls to the Taliban, then it doesn't bode well for the future of Pakistan. Increased Taliban influence in a country which possess nuclear weapons is something I don't want to think about.

Can't agree with you on the legeslation being a good thing, someone famous once said 'those who give up their freedom for security, deserve neither' All those measures sound like they would be quite useful to a repressive government ?
