Most of the stuff was hawked, Del. very nice feller Thanks carp man. I just got fed up over the years of bending down to get in to clean my small wooden kennels. My son gave me a hand to build them. Now the only wood i have is on the roof covered by gortex membrane and tiles. Walls are all block and bars. Beds are brick surround, filled with 18" of polystyrene with 1" of granite on top and rubber stable mat on top of this. This keeps them cool in summer and warm in winter. I also put in automatic drinkers to ensure fresh water all the time. Oh, and the wee bugg*rs have the radio and lights on a timer. Mrs says they are better off than us lol. Doesnt mean that they work any better but at least they can be sure off a nice warm bed all year round. Del. Quote Link to post Share on other sites

Thats the bollax mate, ive just put a pad down for a simular design (might pinch one of your ideas . I like to see kennels that people have designed/modified as apposed to standard factory built. k9delboy 138 Posted June 19, 2011 Report Share Posted June 19, 2011 Bulldog, nice set up. One thing i may change is to bring all my beds to the front where the bars are and put a low roof on them. This way the dogs could jump onto the roof and look out of the bars or sunbathe instead of lying on the concrete floor. Also they would crap at the back of the kennel run this way too. One of the problems now is that they crap in the run and then go to the back of the kennel to where they sleep and then when i come outside they run to the front and step in it. With the beds at the front they would just come out and jump onto the roof to see who was there and wouldnt be running through any doo doos. Another thing i would recommend anyone building is to have the floor running at an angle to the front and have one drain run along the outside of your kennels. My drain runs through the middle from kennel to kennel and all it takes is one sick dog and you pass it through them all. Lastly, i would never paint any concrete below knee level. Even with the best paint in the world, it will come off in the harsh winter weather whether you like it or not.Only my opinion, Del. Quote Link to post Share on other sites
