little advice...

Recommended Posts

hi all just a quick question,i have always gone and shot food for the ferrets when i need to and have always checked for the pellet and removed it or the meat around it because i thought the pellet may be harmful to the ferrets, recently a friend has given me some rabbit he shot and i threw one in without thinking, will the pellet matter or have i been worrying over nothing,thanks...

Your worrying about nothing ive even picked out shotgun pellets in there bowl and if they can eat round and leave them they wont have a problem with a air rifle pellet

My ferrets have always picked out shot and pellets, can always tell when i'm shovelling the shavings out and they hit the shovel. Just make sure you skin and gut everything then freeze for 2 years and then disinfect it before you feed it to the ferret :whistling:

:icon_eek: you freeze food for 2 or 4 years and then disinfect before you feed it to the ferret??? how exactly do you disinfect it?

just give it to them fresh ffs! and don't skin it, just gut it and then stick the whole lot in!

We keep around 12 ferrets at anyone time and have done for 30 odd years and have fed ferrets and kitts on shotguned and rifled rabbits and birds since and never once had the slightest bit of problem with shot had more probs with ferrets getting small bones stuck on there teeth

If you're feeding them to kits, it's a good idea to remove the pellets. I know of a litter last year where all the jill kits died as a result of liver damage from eating the pellets along with the meat.

they post mortemed all the kits then? :whistling:
