an hour with the dog

Recommended Posts

i decided to go for a walk after tea ,so rifle in bag and dog at heal i set off for a short walk to a horse field that my friend owns .it has a smallish bunch of trees [copse] at one end which is fenced off and if i have any chance of a bunny i must sneak through here. so as i reached the trees i got the rifle out and got dog to heal and then sneaked through trees towards fence line ,i spotted a few bunnies 40 yds out and picked one out i loaded the rifle took aim and squeezed the trigger and missed! quick as a flash im reloaded and fire again missed ! the bunny has had enough of this and legs it to the railway lines ,as im cursing myself a bunny pops up 30yds away that must have clapped down and its nerves got the better of it it sat upright and this time i didnt miss -clean head shot a few kicks and then motionless i sent the dog out and it was in my hand in a jiffy.I heard the sound of young jackdaws behind me and crept through to find 3 of them on a branch totally unaware of me if im honest they were simple shots and i dropped two before i sent the dog through to do a couple of retrieves .it was a canny little walk out and i thoroughly enjoyed it [so did jazz]
