Banter....

Recommended Posts

Hi, folks.

I was just wondering about the general thoughts of you lot about the banter that goes on in here sometimes.

There's been a few threads lately that to my mind have clearly upset some of you guys. Chimp's spoof lamping thread is a prime example, I guess. I took it as harmless fun and thoroughly enjoyed it but some of you took it as an insult. Yes there's been the odd muppet who've clearly gone out of their way to insult some of the regulars but it is only the internet after all....

I know I myself can maybe go a bit heavy with the banter and friendly micky taking from time to time and if I've offended anyone, then I appologise. It's only ment in fun

So what do you folks think? How much is too much?

Thanks for reading.

Cheers.

I love it, is all water off a ducks back to me. way I see it, If your offended by banter, either man up, take it on chin and chuck some back or do one with your dummy out and ignore it. I love a good wind up as much as next bloke but if it gets too personal/annoying its easy to just walk away cos people can see when your biting and chuck more fuel on't fire. its up to the individual to calmly say "I've had enough" and jog on if their that bothered. also there's nowt worse for a wind up merchant than for him to be ignored. Im now off to read this lamping threadwhistling.gif

I'm fine with all that goes on so long as people know when to quit from taking things too seriously or becoming too personal or insulting. Disagreement is healthy. We all have our views and opinions as we have our various levels of experience. The tricky bit is that writing down what we want to say, with the same emphasis as we use to speak in face-to-face conversation is not always taken in the same, true context.

If you agree with something, fine, say so and why. If not, fine again; say so and why. Let's stimulate debate and opinion. But, generally, don't lose sight of the fact that this is a wonderful sport that joins us together, that we all love and take seriously in our turns, to want to do it well, safely and properly. I've made great friendships with some fine lads here like AndyFR1968 and Zini and Davyt63. And some, like Daz, and Wurz and others I haven't even met in the flesh yet! :toast:

If those like Hunter1989 and that Colliebollocks we had a while back, use and abuse it to scam cash for non-existant goods or create intelligence-insulting threads of pure crapola -(and human nature being what it is, there will be more from :censored: others like them to come  !) well, they ask for the :censored: shit they get :feck: .

For myself, I like to treat everyone equally politely and respectfully at first contact here. If they want to degenerate their contribution to insults and personal abuses, well, fine. Any coward can hide behind his computer and lob insults out at strangers. So why be amazed and angered if a witless Donkey kicks you?

Make mates not enemies. It's much nicer to log on and chat with a friendly mind!

I agree with you, Simon

What I would also like to hear is the comments of those folks who have taken exception to the kind of posts and comments that I've outlined.

It's a decent forum here for the most part, and I'm just wondering why some folks object so strongly to some of the light hearted threads?? As I've said before, if the banter wasn't here, it'd just be a question and answer site and who wants that??

Cheers.

Just like owt else mate, some folk take themselves WAY to seriously, and it's usually a sign of some kind of insecurity. I do notice in this section that, there are certain folk that you CANNOT give shit to without the thread getting closed / removed, or the cavalry piling in. Whereas in most other sections it's everyman for himself and no one 'reports' anything.

Agreed, Jasper  Either take the joke or choose to ignore it, unless it's a personal stab, I really can't see the point.

It miffs me a bit when this 'them and us' BS comes in, we're all into field sports and all that goes with it. I don't keep dogs, but I've got plenty of friends who do and there's never any grief, so I don't understand why it should spill over on to here.
