Took delivery of a shiny new Western River"Apache" caller this afternoon. Approximately a hundred yard range on the remote and unlike the Foxpro caller it uses standard mp3 files instead of Cubase formatted ones. 400 calls on the unit, most of them useless in the UK unless the RSPCA *cough, wankers cough* start releasing wolves and bear into the wild.

It was really easy to back the calls up then remove the unwanted ones. As I have ihunt for the iphone I wondered how to transfer the good ones. Seeeemples.

Download a small program called Audacity and using a standard 3.5mm lead connect the iphone to the pc. Hit record on Audacity and play on the iphone. Export the file in mp3 format to the device and away you go. The unit is syncronised to the remote by connecting them with the same 3.5mm lead. It also has a control on the remote for a wobbly rabbit decoy.

I shall be out tonight after a wily old git that has been causing mayhem on a chicken farm so fingers crossed.....

Including the inevitable customs charge it came to £290 including shipping. £90 dearer than the Foxpro spitfire but worth the extra. I am on a paid job after the chicken farm at £100 per charlie so it should pay for itself tonight all being well.

That no where near as bad as I thought it might be!

You get £100 per charlie!!! I hope it works for you at that rate.

Jonno

£100 plus travelling at £1 per mile for urban charlies. Too cheap????

Tonight's job was a doddle, at a bowling green. Set up at 9.30 in the clubhouse at 10.45 did a test run on the caller and lo and behold a vixen and a dog belted onto the green. Dropped the dog but the vixen made like a banana in a heartbeat.

I have the Foxpro FX3, got it in Tennessee three years ago, great piece of kit, well made particularly the battery pack. I paid nearly $500 (Then £280) for it, and yes I only use about 4 of the 31 preloaded

calls, we were on a wild boar hunting lodge in the Cumberland Mountains in South West TN, I for a laugh flashed up the Coyote Howl call. The hunt dogs went berswerk, our guide Cory Looper (ZZ Top look alike)

let his 'Hawg' Hound loose (looked like a cross between a Pit Bull and a Rottweiler) and he squared off to my 'plastic torch' squeeker on a hay bale and made ready to munch it! So it must sound realistic.

Back home since I have shot dozens of Fox using it, it's main advantage over the usual blow type calls is that the call is NOT where YOU ARE it's 100+ yards away and where you need the Fox to be.

Anyway I'm going to Florida hunting next week Hogs look out!!

I have been out to people that have been quoted £400 for a night regardless of success. Bear in mind that these are urban foxes for the most part, all townies are rich laugh.gif
