jumping reluctance, advice please!

Recommended Posts

I just bought a 2year old Bullxgreyhound and he couldn't jump but I've been taking him out everyday to gates to teach him how to jump and within a week I got him jumping over 6bar gates I know he can jump fences aswell but I just lift him over fences with barbed wire on them even though he can jump them because my Grandads dog ripped open it's leg jumping them it must of been a 12 inch tear all the way down her leg and now she can't run properly cause her hind leg is limp the vet adviced not even to walk the dog nomore cause the damage was to serious and she can't put her weight on it atb with your dog

thanks mate but like i said he had no other way round and everytime he goes to try to get through the gap i gave the command NO stick with it and it should pay off. that first video we were there for a good ten mins or so before he jumped he is 2 in december and loves jumping but as i said in my first reply now and again he will try to go round or through.

Well had Harley out for some jumping practice tonight, put her over a little bench at first no problem, then a bigger park bench sized bench again no prob, then i tried over a rod stand at the local river, don't know if anyone has seen these i expect some of you must have , big gap underneath stands about 3-4ft high, but..... managed to entice her over even though she got her legs in a bit of a knot!!! very pleased with her!!

Don't over worry if it won't jump 6bar gates. Ye it's good to have a dog that can jump a fence to continue a chase but equally it's not so good if you have a dog who thinks they can jump anything and ends up landing on a 6ft barbed wire fence an tear themselves open! (I've seen it). If they think of the sensible way round/ under a fence it's sometimes not so bad as you think, they are just using common sense. I have a mate who reckons jumping high fences is as important as catching game. Unless ypu are entering a high jump competition then it's not! If it still fills the pot then jumping is slightly irrelevant. ATB Striker
