iworkwhippets 12,521
I'm extremely new to working dogs and have no experience at all so you can pay no regard to this if you wish, but I don't understand the constant need that alot but not all seem to feel they have to prove them selves to others , become or bee seen as a real 'Dog Man' , or own absolute word beaters or claim to own one , yes I'm sure every one wants to have the pleasure of owning a good dog that is a pleasure to watch work, and yes I suppose that a good dog will owe some of its skills to it's owner in the time and effort given to provid the dog with everything it needs to excel , but in my eyes if the dog pleases it's owner and provides you with enjoyment and pleasure of owning that dog and watching it grow mature and develop into a good dog that you enjoy watching and partaking in good days and nights out catching your desired quarry who cares if Jim down the roads dog catches more than yours ,or if you don't fall into the 'Good Dog Man' category , and I think it seems even more silly that some feel the need to compete with people on here that they will never even meet in the flesh In my eyes a good dog and a good dog man in one that enjoys owning and working his dogs , has good strong bond with his dogs and nows their limits and is happy with his dogs regardless of how good the dog down the street is or the owner claims it is . Well said that man 2 Quote Link to post
rocky1 942
well the master needs to know what he is doing before the dog does so if it cant learn from the master its never going to get so in the end its only as good as its master so what you saying is the dog as good as its master is that right ,well if thats the case the dog you,ve got yes it your first dog if i,m correct well ,that dog could end the best or the worst would that class as your fault i would,nt i,d but it down 2 inexperience the more you learn your trade the better dog man you become its like anythink ,so if thats right what you saying your dog is going 2 be rubbish cause it your first dog i,m not saying that you are ,but thats not the case a inexperiece dog person could get lucky and end with a gooddog but also ruin it with inexperience Quote Link to post

hellyer189 93
My dog has taught me alot (first lurcher) a dog is as good as the chances he gets had him 5 months and it's been hard to say the least so a dog is as good as the person putting the time into him/her IMO but over time we have become one and work well together and he is starting to work with my terrier they are what you make them Quote Link to post

chartpolski 23,278
A:Is a dog only as good as its last time out. b:or as good as its master A pathetic question; in my opinion ! A dog could be great in it'a last time out, but wake up the next morning and be lame ! It could take six month to get the dog right, and the best dogs would be worth the work to get them right !! A dog is only as good as the work it gets ! The best dog in the world is useless if it is left to fester in it's kennel. A half decent dog will go well if it is given the chance !! It's all down to the owner if he gives the dog the chance to work ! Cheers. Quote Link to post

leegreen 2,153
A good dog will only show its true colours under good dog man and a good dog man can't polish a turd or something like that. Saying that even a shite dog man can get something out of a good dog but he will never make it shine. Anyway I am feckin brilliant and my Great Dane is an allrounder! Quote Link to post

A dog should run its best or try at lest every day you bring it out Quote Link to post
