HUNTER91 1
As I recently posted to the forum I now have a Five Generation Pedigree Saluki puppy bith of 11 weeks old. The sire's registered name was 'Charming Commander' and the Dam's registered name was 'Samirah of the nile' The other names on the Kc Certificate are mainly an arabic origin or some sort, im not 100% Tink as we decided to call her because of her cheeky and bright behaviour, has settled in at home very well, the first moments home she was introduced to 'Bud' Our Springer x Patterdale. 'Buds' gentle nature seemed to suit 'Tink' and on the first night she slept fine, without the slightest cry. However, the second night led to constant crying. We decided to let 'Tink' come out of her crate and relax untill she felt comfortable enough to get in again. When i woke the next morning i discovered that Tink had s**t all over her new bedding ruining it. I threw it away and bought a new mat for her crate, but the next morning she done the same. It seems alot of her s**t's arnt solid, i have been feeding her on bakers puppy dry meal and wondered if this could be something to do with it. The last time Tink was wormed was 1st June 2011 Also what is the best reccomended food for a young saluki pup ? Thanks alot...HUNTER91 Quote Link to post
Hannah4181 260
First step . . loose the Bakers, its horrendous stuff! Replace with either a good quality kibble . . . Arden Grange, Burns, Royal canin . . . . OR a diet of raw food, minced beef, chicken wings, tripe etc etc. Or mix the 2 . . . a couple of kibble meals a day and maybe a mince meal? ANYTHING other than Bakers!! Loose stools can also be caused by stress/worry. Also how big is teh cage? Its better to give them a small, snug area as they are less likely to defecate on the area which they sleep. Worming is every every 2 weeks till 12 weeks . . . every month till 6 months . . . . then 3 monthly thereafter. Quote Link to post

HUNTER91 1
It is a pretty small cage, my girlfriends grandad also thought that it was rubbish food. Out of the cage she seems very relaxed and playful, always running around, just on the night she seems to start crying and in the morning there is just alot of poo ! Quote Link to post

6pack 60
You can not expect a pup of 11 weeks to hold its self all night. I would recommend a larger crate with a cosy sleeping area and paper the other half. The pup will not intentionally mess it's bed so should use the papered side. A covered hot water bottle can be good to help settle a lonely pup, add with a radio set to a talking channel (my preference is Radio 5 lol) Some toys to chew and help keep occupied too. If the dire rear doesn't clear up once your drop the Bakers, you can ask your vet for a tube of Pro Kolin - it's good gut bacteria to help digestion and hopefully help with the runs. It's not cheap stuff but have had good results. You can help make the crate more welcoming by feeding her in it and giving treats inside when she is tired. Quote Link to post

Country Joe 1,411
I have a Whippet pup, now 14 Weeks, crated since 10 weeks, first night crated in kitchen, howled most of the Night, second night brought crate into the bedroom, pup slept all night, in morning moved crate back to the kitchen. did this for two nights, then moved crate at night to outside Bedroom door, again for two nights, then kitchen all night, and now sleeps there all night, used to whine at 6 am when I would get up, but then left him till 8 am, He is now 14 Weeks, I let him out at midnight and he sleeps till 8 am without a murmur, he is fed raw meat and bone, and has never wet or soiled his crate. hope this helps.
