Warning shots?

Recommended Posts

Is it permissible to give a warning shot to none general licensed birds as l have pegged a dead rabbit about 100 yards down my croft to lure crows but common (herring) gulls keep on swooping down to the carcase to try to eat some of it. I must have walked down the croft 20 + times so far in the last 2 hours to scare them off. Its getting annoying now, hence my question? I have to emphasize l don't mean trying to hit them at all I just mean say firing a shot in their general direction into the ground etc. I think it might be frowned upon as in if any anti etc. saw me do this it might be hard to prove in court that l had no intention to hit none general licensed birds so what are your views? Contentious topic possibly!thumbs.gif

Check General Licence Scotland. I think you'll find Herring Gulls, Greater Black Backed and Lesser Black Backed gulls are still on General Licence up your way.

Is it this one mate http://www.scotland.gov.uk/Resource/Doc/1221/0109515.pdf?

I was looking at it today because l was getting fed up of them but could only see the black backed gull on it.

thanks Callum

If you can show 'spread of disease' i.e. have any animals on the croft. See attached doc

I'm not sure bro. Herring and black backed were taken off General Licence in England last year, but not in Scotland. May have changed now. Can you be sure which is which at 100 yds? :whistling:

Yes l can mate l have my comp with the relative quarry pics with me beside the gun which itself is pointing out the window at my baitthumbs.gif

You can't fire an actual shot, but if you get hold of some blanks that might work to scare them. Of course it'd probably scare off your desired quarry too, but then so will running up and down the croft flapping.

I was thinking of buying an air horn mate because l think it would be too risky encase someone in the know saw me pointing a gun at none quarry species and heard the crack of the gun

Why not run a line down to a stick with a can with a stone in it and when they come down just rattle the can......if you know what I mean, save you keep running down.

Martin

I might actually try that.
