matt_hooks 188
A lot of the highland stalkers use .270 Win, it'll knock down Red's at 200 yards with ease. When moderated it's a great round to fire, the mod reduces the violent shove it gives unmoderated to a gentle push. If it'll take down a big red stag, then it'll knock over a roe or munty with ease. Of course you might have trouble getting some places cleared for it. Quote Link to post
Wullz 408
Wouldn't shoot a roe with it, not if you were intending it for the table. .270 makes a fair old hole in them. Better on the bigger boys. My shooting buddy uses one, he uses home loads, dunno the deets, but I will get them for you. Uses it mostly for reds and sika. I have seen a fox that he shot, when his .222 was in for repair....nasty mess. All the best Wullz.... Quote Link to post

David B Allen 0
Round placement is just as important as the round itself when shooting any life game. I've never used a .270 myself but I've used a .308 with Winchester Super X 155 Gr for Highland red deer, roe and fox for over 25 years now, works for me. Quote Link to post

Yep, I have a Browning A Bolt Medalion in .270, had it for 8 years, I have settled on Reloads of 130 gr Sierra Gamekings on 59gr of R22, also have some 110gr V Max on the same powder in case a fox turns up. Buy the way it doesn't eat brass like my 22.250 does, I am still on the 100 bag I bought when I got the rifle! It's a great cartridge, mine is very accurate, easy 5 shot 1" groups at 100 off a bag. I have a Predator 8 Moderator fitted without it the noise is 'hideously' LOUD. I mainly shoot Roe, but get fair few Fallow I have yet to lose a Deer with it, however my buddies .243 can't claim that! To be honest in the first instance I bought it because it was a 'Left Hand' Bolt, but it's a great combination. AF Quote Link to post
