millsy44 72 Posted June 14, 2011 Author Report Share Posted June 14, 2011 The rule seems to be.........pay £600 quid for your new R10.....then send it off to "tench" "j.bowkett" to get it shooting how it should shoot straight from the box............the mind boggles lol and for the £600 + the £300 to get it blue printed/tuned you could get one of the top rifles on the market........me smells a scam/rat from Bsa...... As far as i can see , the R10 ( a very pleasing to the eye rifle i must admit ) had a period of short falls when it first came out . It seems they were rushed into the shops and there were a few minor faults . These hindered the R10 somewhat , which is a shame , and seems to have left a `bad taste` with some owners.This has unfortunatly been hard for BSA to shake off and keeps the `dark cloud` over the R10 , which in my eyes is a very decent bit of kit . Makes sense bust, smoggyadam has got a good one but obviously has too much money, coz hes sending it to J. bowkett anyway , and so have a few others, but there seems to be alot of money needing to be spent to get the "dodgy" ones up to the mark, I agree that if you throw enough shite, some sticks. Ron Weasley 83 Posted June 14, 2011 Report Share Posted June 14, 2011 You're right - it's crazy that such an expensive rifle should need so much money spent on it to get it as it should be. I've had mine for more than 2 years, and in that time, it's been back to BSA twice when it's developed faults - both times under warranty. That's the only thing I've had done to it, and I love it to bits. It'll be going to John Bowkett at some point when I can spare the change, but it's still a very decent piece of gear that I wouldn't part with. Quote Link to post

What Bowkett does is replace the penny pinching parts the accountants insist they use for ones that were specified when he built the gun initially. Then it is adjustment to the mechanism of the gun, ensuring all the parts are operating to his specification, not factory tolerances! The upshot is you get a lifetime guarantee on the work he does and more shots per fill. If my Super 10 was not the fire spitting monster it was (thank god for chronos, I wondered why the trajectory was so damned flat ), it would have gone to him for the blueprint! Atb peter this has crossed my mind a few times but people who love em love em. and in a thread the other day phantom was saying he had an ultra with anti tamper that was over 12 pound and he had a nicking for it. it does seem a lot leave the factory lacking some thing. some one else posted that a well known gun shop had stopped stocking them due to the hassle of returns. but never the less a lot of people do like em and the R10 is a fine looking rifle. Seen one go a few days ago,on the BBS for £395.Once you have sourced the cheapest r10 you can find.Send it for a blueprint to JB.It will come back better than the Mk 2 r10.Life time warrenty,that i am sure is transferable. Unless you removed the A/T that JB puts in place,after carrying out the work.I am sure he would repair anything that would go in the gun,under the warrentey.He realy takes pride in his work,and likes to see anything with the BSA logo,work the way it should.Thats the impression i got when speaking to him. atb Brian Quote Link to post
