As do wood peckers. its just nature you fannys. ill will reframe from playground terminology , the point of my drawring attetion to the topic was not to make light of the natural course of things but to highlight the way in witch the magpie would be portraid , and the bais way they would put it across , go to any public park and note the population of corvids then go to a keeprd estate were corvids are controlled were songbirds thrive , man kind has created an unatural enviroment for corvids and they have taken full advatage , they need controlling ,, 3 Quote Link to post Share on other sites

Heard it a million time "they are killing off the song birds" but don't believe its just them. Habitat loss, cats, slug pellets, dryer springs and more cars on the road are also major culprits. The whole magpie/corvid thing is just for people raising pheasants to release and shoot, an excuse if you like. was not a statement it was a qestion , corvids have taken advantage of the situation created by man the magpie being the main culprit whether or not i like the bird is erelivent it needs controlling , seems you dislike keepers , a local warden got in touch with me his colony of terns were being raided on the nest by your magpie mates as the tern is endangered he asked could we contoll them not so bright magpie met mr larson , deep joy 12 less cackling fooookers and a happy warden , rabbits next or would you rather we didnt Quote Link to post Share on other sites

chook1 184 Posted June 15, 2011 Report Share Posted June 15, 2011 I dont belive the decline of the song birds is wholey down to just the Corvids, over the last few years ive seen a big decline in the amount of Corvids we see near me, we also have a large decline in the song birds we see, compared to about 10 years ago, magpies were ten a penny, now im lucky if i see more than two together, there are no keepered estates near me, and as far as i know, no one is trapping them or shooting them.
