leegreen 2,204
my dogs look fitter in summer than they do in winter, but are not in any way as sharp,or as fit! I put a bit more weight on my dogs towards the start of the season, and only after a month or so hard fieldwork, day and night, would i consider them match fit summer winter. Hare was shot and retrieved. So do mine, I think it's a coat thing as well. My dogs don't usually take as long as a month to get fit though, although I do a fair bit of bushing/mooching in the summer. Nice dogs people. Edited June 15, 2011 by leegreen Quote Link to post
TROY_BOY 62
was it a crufts dog lol or a top coursing dog roberto cause i've seen some cracking looking fit dogs who were not worth a carrot but would fetch top dollar at auction based on looks as i'm sure every coursing man has been out with people who's dogs don't look much but once slipped total machines as the saying goes looks can be decieving Quote Link to post

toby1066 413
nobody can judge how a dog works from a pic and theres a big difference in lamping to daytime running. a lot of daytime dogs smash good numbers of rabbits and other things on the lamp but how many lamping dogs can do the same daytime? hellyer189 93
Personally I think day time is a while different ball game and alot harder master which is why you get alot if people who don't bother generally try say they don't like if but I get a massive buzz off watching a day time run Quote Link to post
karlsberg 319
before any exercise you have to get dog fit from within takes us about 3 month to get proper match fit Quote Link to post
Tiny 7 1,694
good point but which dog would be the fitest,a top class match dog for day or a top class one for lamping??? Id say there alot of diffrence between recovery rate and plain stamiana to have a run for say 3/4 min, But both would have to be fit to have a decnt shift either way Quote Link to post
