Its some twat whos not got a f*****g scooby doo how to look after a dog, thinking leaving it someplace where it would be found and putting 'lettuce leaves' beside it incase it gets hungry...... 6pack 60
It's long and tedious but have a scan through the lost section on here, on Lurcher Search too and Dog Lost as well. It isn't uncommon for a dog to have been stolen and then dumped. Someone who may not be responsible for the state of the dog could be looking for it. Try not to limit your search to areas either as we have seen dogs missing from Yorkshire show up in Hertfordshire. Law also requires you to report the find to the dog warden, they may also be able to match it to a missing report. If not, you have 2 options - 1, ask the dog warden to collect the dog, it does 7 days in the 'system' before they can rehome it themselves (not all pounds will rehome or work with rescues and it could be PTS) or 2. tell the dog warden you are willing to hold onto the dog. You may have to sign a form which states you will hang onto it for 28 days. If an owner does not come forward in that time you are then the legal owner of the dog and can rehome or keep as you wish. Just a word of trepidation.....we found a dog in similar circs, tied to a post by a thread of string. Did the 28 days, fixed him up lovely Was then approached by a group of traveller lads, it was obvious from the dogs reaction that it had been their dog. They tried to demand their dog back and became quite forceful. Threats of the RSPCA and animal cruelty made them leave, but for little old me it was quite scary. 2 Quote Link to post
chook1 184
Unfortunaly doing the 28 day thing - you never completly become the dogs legal owner, the only way you can be come the legal owner is if the council takes possession of the dog via the dog going in to the pound to do its 7 days, then you take it on afterwards. From a dog warden If a person keeps a dog they must do so for 28 days, cannot do anything with that dog in the meantime except for emergency medical treatment (which they would be liable for) and after the 28 days the dog never legally becomes their property. If the dog goes to the pound for 7 days then it becomes the council property and can be legally sold or given away. Quote Link to post
ozzieowl 53
if the owner comes forward, its there dog,and if it as been stolen,i hope it does get back to its owner,i didnt want this dog but its better off here than with the rspca or the kennels,i was planning on getting a bitch, but now have to put it on hold as we cannot cope with anymore dogs 6 is enough, also we didnt find the dog,it was found by my sister inlaw as she was going to work early morning near junction 36 M1 birdwell near barnsley 2 minutes away from the motorway Quote Link to post
