Rolfe 2
I started my first wasp nests in mid May this year.......nothing unusual in that but the sheer amount i have been getting is certainly different. I have had a busy year relocating bumble bees, re-homing bee swarms and dealing with umpteen calls for many different variety's of bee's in general. (Masonry in particular) I think the very hot spell we had in April has had a lot to do with it as everything came out of hibernation early and then there were no late HARD frosts to kill them off. All means work for me so i am not complaining but it will be interesting to see if the season finishes early as a result of the early start. Typical size of nest i am treating now is small melon size..........The one in the picture i removed from a garage this morning, I was wondering if any other Pesties out there had noticed similar patterns in different parts of the country? goshawking719 492
Fingers crossed for a good long season- treated about 12-15 nests over the last two weeks although none of any decent size yet. Treated my last wasps nest on the second of December last year! Quote Link to post
Holdaway 2
Well Chalkwarren did a fantastic job at my place. 7 nests and all within a 30 yard radius. H Quote Link to post
ratattack 111
Had my first for this on 16th april! Doing a fair few melon sized nests this last week. Quote Link to post
Bushwacker 13
I did the first wasp nest on May 2nd & have had them building up steadily since, also plenty of calls about bumbles, masonry & honey bees. Was setting rabbit traps in a clients garden the other day & found 3 bumble nests dug out by a badger, no wonder they are in decline. Hopefully there will be plenty of wasps for everyone this year ..... "pest controllers" seem to be multiplying as fast as the rabbits around here. Quote Link to post
comanche 3,025
Had a couple of nests very early in May and it has built up from there. I had a call from one chap who turned out to be an insect monitor for his local chapter of the Conservation Volounteers. Apparently it is official . Insects -at least in this area -are two weeks ahead of their usual timescale . Quote Link to post
