Simoman 110
I'd say proven parents are the key to improving your chances of getting a fox killing lurcher. Many crosses will kill foxes with gusto but imo dealing with the ivories is the bread and butter of the bull and wheaten crosses, only a fool would say all will take foxes with gusto BUT its fair to say MOST of the dogs REGULARLY taking numbers of foxes have bull or wheaten in their make-up. I wont disagree with those numbers, i stick to rabbits nowdays but its common for us to see double figures on our permission most nights so if you were so inclined a good bag is possible, especially if you are inclined to drive and this is just one piece of permission........... fidodido 30
whatever bout taking huge numbers bud, im hunting too long to know that seeing something and killing it , are 2 completly different things , best of luck Aye thats true, but lots of lads are taking amounts of game that others wouldnt think possible, Now I admit, that is one hell of a lot of foxes, but because I have not seen it dont make it a lie If he had said 100 a week then yeah, but 9 if your travelling about dont seem out the way to me....that said, you would have to put some serious time in to get those numbers. atb At no point in that blokes post did he say that he was taking 6-9 foxes, 5 nights a week every week.....he said "4s and 5s upto 9...3 to 5 nights a week most of the season".....that is more than possible IMHO its true pal an people on here can vouch only problem we had was mending the subaru`s and the landy pal Quote Link to post
fidodido 30
I'm not doubting that dogs do it, what i find funny, is being stood at say a local working dog show, and everyone with a fox dog is saying they do multiple a night, multiple nights a week, through out the season. If that was the case, and there were hundreds of folk in the local area getting big bags every week from end of august, you really think there would be foxes to run after xmas??? obviously some hunters are like fishermen and tell lies lol Quote Link to post

shaaark 10,750
Don't know about 'ultimate' fox dogs, but most of the really good, consistant ones I've seen have been lurcher x lurcher, collie/grey x deer/grey and the very best one was a first x deer/ grey, owned by a good friend of mine in the late 's, a dog called merlin, who also caught pretty much everything he was ran on, with what looked like comparative ease Quote Link to post
pattstaff 157
A friend used to have a coursing type Saluki/Greyhound that absolutely hated foxes and would hunt them with a passion day and night. She would destroy her fox. So I suppose the awnser is good foxing lurchers could, before the ban, be found in almost any cross. Hey feck off and get your own photo Watchman:big_boss: Edited June 10, 2011 by pattstaff Quote Link to post
whippet 99 2,613
why does fox hunting with lurchers always come down too the numbers game, does it matter. what do people go out for the sport or the numbers, theres easier ways to control foxes if there are that many, there are breeds that will take a decent amount of stick , people always trying to prove there dogs, im happy if i take one or two now and again, nothing to prove to anyone, as long as you get out and do a bit , thats what counts 1 Quote Link to post

The point i was trying to make is most lurchers would finish a fox if they pop up in the beam once a fortnight, but the same dog may be a little less enthusiastic if several foxes a night are being illuminated. Not about the "bravado", but more a point that there are fox dogs...and fox dogs Irrelavent for us poor lads here now the hunting act has been implemented Quote Link to post
WILF 46,795
The standard to which a dog works and the amount of times you want to test it at that standard all boils down to what a man (or woman) wants to keep in their kennel I suppose......as has been said, as long as you are pleasing yourself thats the main job. busher 145
depends how many foxs your getting an if your running single doubled or tripled or as some idiots quadrupled lol jackers will catch an kill odd uns but when your talking numbers it seperates the propa fox dogs from the 1 a month foxing lurcher,. yep go along with that, any x will take a fox the odd 1 month or so. But really to do them pre ban , say 6-9 in a week and they all get bite sooner or later. You wont beat a well bred bullxgrey, from proven stuff. Its not they can catch+kill better than other xs, its the tenacity that they have and pain they can handle, that most xs dont have. And thats the big differnce , and thats why i think they are the best for fox control 6 to 9 a week lol try that a night 3 to 4 sometimes 5 times a week an then you see what in talking about not to mention other tackle that was taken aswell all pre ban of course now we only shoot and get the dogs to retreive So you're saying you have a dog that does 9 foxes per night 5 times a week? 45 foxes per week? thats exactly what i thought must be some dog lads and ye must have some amount of foxs over there if its catching 9 a night must be missing 5 14 foxs coursed and 9 killed by 1 bull cross in 1 night.super bulls.any pups available of these super dogs. i didnt say 1 dog took all them and yes ive taken 9 and bigger gags a night not with the 1 dog obviously an people who know me know how true this to be people off here can vouch` bags like that are easy enough in the right areas with the right team ur right mate' seen it mi self....ATB..B Quote Link to post
