Blue one 89
although, the average whippet, weighs more than a fox, the fighting, or more correctly, defense tactics, of a fox, out smart, a whippet on its own, every time, after all, the fox, is fighting for its life and can deal out some punishment, if not dealt with by a stronger dog. whippets that do take foxes single handed, are rare, just my experience, on the matter. 1 Quote Link to post

Surely all of this is irrelavent as the whippets he has seen grab the throat of the fox from underneath :toast: What amazing athletisism and accuracy to throat a fox on the run :toast: All i can say is im glad running foxes with dogs in this country is banned or the boy and his chums would of made them extinct in a few short seasons :toast: Quote Link to post
whippet08 8
Just come into this thread and havent taken the time to read all posts as i think simoman summed it up in his last couple posts,i own a first cross beddy whippet and a collie grey whippet, which has taken mostly to the whippet, now i know these two dogs could do it but i think there are more appropriate crosses available which single handed wil cope alot better, not saying whippets cant because i know they can but ill keep my two on the legal stuff, p.s bit of beddy in with the whippet puts some fire in em all the best Quote Link to post
sim1066 0
my whippet takes fox on his own whenever he comes across one. Quote Link to post
spiderfly 111
theres been a lot said on whippets so just to clear a few for my own benefit , could anyone tell me , whippet owning or not ,........... is there any task that a whippet could do ,to such a high level,... that no other breed of dog could come close or would be considered a specialist in that certain trade ??? Now theres a decent post and no there aint in my opinion what ever task ye set a whippet to theres a cross of lurcher out there that will do it better i bet theres not 1 person on here can come up with a job a whippet can do better than a purpose bred lurcher they can be that little bit quicker off the mark and they are pleasure to watch when working and they are great to live with and mine have done the odd fox but as i said before on this tread i would'nt take them out to hunt foxes.this dogs has a few under his belt a couple single handed but a good few along with my bushing terriers he was up for study [bANNED TEXT] i wud be interested in breeding him wit my black bitch Quote Link to post

stoaty 171
I have had quite a few whippet lurchers and whippets over the years all dogs and all would take fox when the occasion arose apart from my whippet x greyhound and tiny brindle whippet I had that wasn't interested 1 bit.I had a whippet dog and his son and both nailed foxes granted I never looked for foxes but they definately can do the job when the oppertunity is there Stoaty Edited June 24, 2011 by stoaty Quote Link to post
