AlbertJ 569
The All Ireland launch of the Great Game Fairs of Ireland took place at Stormont on Tuesday when 'Country really did come to Town' In 34 years I have never had as wet a press reception ever to launch the Great Game Fairs of Ireland and specifically the Fairs' International Year of the Dog which will see the largest and most varied cannine event ever mounted in Ireland and one with a REAL INTERNATIONAL FLAVOUR. But conversely we have rarely had a more successful one as everyone coped with the weather outside and mixed with a genuine warmth inside. Dog owners of all sorts were present to promote : The 24th Annual All ireland terrier & Lurcher Championships; The Redmills Five Nations International Lurcher Championships; the Redmills Master Mc Grath Challenge; the Chudleys InterClub Golden Retriever Test - 9 teams of goldens from all over the UK; the All Ireland Game Fair Retriever Handing Championships; The Feedwell International Retriever Tests; various spaniel tests; Horse and Hounds pedigree dog show; dog agility displays and show; dog mushing and a World Dog Training Record attempt. Political support for the Fairs was given by Tourism Minster Arleene Foster; Finance Minister Designate Simon Hamilton,MLA; Francie Molloy,MLA; Jim Shannon MP; various Mayors, councillors and other politicians and tourist development officials. The ROI's Minister of Tourism Dr Leo Varadkar had business in the Dail and was unable to attend but sent a strong message of support. Lyall Plant Director of CAI and Des Crofton the Director of the NARGC were present and Des spoke on behalf of all of Ireland' country sports. www.dogandcountry.tv were there to televise proceedings for a dog related programme covering the actual activities taking place at Shanes Castle; UTV televised some of it for the 7.30 show today week and BBC2 also gave it a little coverage. Great pictures Bluebell Great to see so many well turned out dogs of all breeds, including the hounds, at Stormont. Sorry I didn't get round to chat to everyone but it was difficult to co-ordinate everything with such awful conditions outside. However we got some great photos, some excellent footage for the www.dogandcountry.tv programme that is being made on the dog events at Shanes Castle, we got a snippet on that night's BBC2 programme on the assembly and we should be featured on UTV's 7.30 show on Thursday night. Thanks to all who turned out to another memorable event for the GREAT GAME FAIRS of IRELAND Albertj

AlbertJ 569
well done A, great to see countrysports in the big limelight John, In spite of poor weather outside we managed to get all the right photos of hounds, terriers & lurchers, gundogs, hawks & falcons etc. And these have been wodely circulated to the papers. Also Malachy Cush from UTV's 7.30 show managed to get some footage which should be shown this Thursday night. Great guy and really interested in country sports and is coming to the fair. Great support from the politicians including Minster Arlene Foster and Minister designate Simon Hamilton and good letter of support from Tourism Minister Dr Leo Varadkar from the South. I feel it is important to promote countrysports both INSIDE and OUTSIDE of the country sports community and I feel ALL COUNTRYSPORTS are important. Albert

AlbertJ 569
Albert will you get to do the same at Leinster House for the launch of Birr L330, The Stormont launch was the all Ireland launch of both fairs - we follow this up with a Press breakfast at Shanes Castle on the Friday morning before the fair and a press launch on the evening of the 27th July at Birr Castle. We have launched before at the Michael Collins Barracks and other public venues in the south but have found that the format that are using this year works best for media coverage.
