B.P.R 2,798
hi, im just looking about for a cheap ferret finder. not sure if i want to get one yet, maybe next month but i was wondering, which one would you recommend getting, the mk1 or the mk3? obviously the mk1 is older and cheaper. ive heard that the mk1 can be used with the mk3 collar but not the other way round? thanks Quote Link to post
The one 8,476
Your going to have to go with a mk3 and learn to use it ,theres a load of mk1's out there but there dying on there feet the spare parts are running out . It still surprises me somebody selling a knackered mk1 wants good cash for it because it might not be repairable Quote Link to post

Rake aboot 4,935
Go for the Mk3M much better to use when you get used to it. The Mk1s make loadsa cash,,(I`ve got one in perfect nick with a coller or two) but never use it as the Mk3M is superb. ATB Quote Link to post
Jingo 6
just got a mk3m used it 3 or 4 times and must say their brilliant, can stand well back from a set and have no bother tracking the ferrets and the locate option for digging too ferrets is spot on with regards to depth. all in all fairly expensive piece of kit for what it is but well worth the money considering how much could still pay for a knackered mk1 and at least ya know ya getting a warranty with it and be plenty collars kicking about in the near future. Jingo 6
Well as a lot will know i'm still new to ferreting (first year) and its the only ferret finder ive bought, put alot of time into finding out which was the best and yes alot of people rate the mk1 but as mentioned before quite a few are starting to fail. I went for the mk3m as i knew deben gave a warranty with it as well as i knew they'd be servicing them for a long time to come saving money in the future unlike the mk1 which has been phased out yet people can still pay £ - £100. as far as i know the mk1 only has the option to locate your ferret from directly underneath the receiver? where as the mk3 you can stand well away from the set and point it in the direction the ferrets traveling. it also has a sensitivity dial which enables you to even mute the sound and jsut use the L.E.D display should you wish to do so. But as i say im new to ferreting people that were brought up on the mk1 obviously favor them where as only having experience with a mk3 and never having trouble with it ill stick with it. As Jamie says though if do decide on a mk3 and want it a bit cheaper then best get orders in soon. Edited June 9, 2011 by Jingo Quote Link to post
pikeman2011 2
mk1 all the way lad Quote Link to post
ferretman89 68
I used to use the mk1 when i went with my dad then we packed in. I still have my old mk1 nut when i started again i went out and bought the mk3m. So glad that i did. The old mk1 was good in its day but i find that the mk3 is far far better at being accurate and once you get the hang of it its really easy to use, never fails. The only down side is the anoying noise it makes lol So if it was me i would defo go for the mk3 mate Quote Link to post
Jingo 6
with regards to noise i think if anyone was to be passing they'd think they were witnessing an alien abduction Quote Link to post
