smelly dog 16
The Motivation behind breeding a litter After a conversation with a mate, I thought I would pose this question to see what different thoughts there are. 'Does it matter what others do in their kennels', as he said I wont have theirs in my kennel, but how long will it be till good working stock is diluted. My motivation to breed a litter is to replace a worker in my kennel, any spare pups given FOC to trusted homes, same as I was given, if my pup fails, 1 of the trusted homes will return the favour . I know of 1 lad that breeds a few litter's each season to pay for his family holiday. His motivation is £££££££'s I know of some lads that breed alot of litters, give a few FOC to trusted lads but then sell loads of pups to the highest bidders. Their motivation being THIER LINE and ££££££'s. I know some breed to produce a show winning dog, that also sell old and young dogs and spare pups. ££££££'s Some just breed anything to make £££££££'s Would you allow anyone to use a good working stud dog just for the £££££££'s ? Please reply and put what is your motivation. long summer and this should entertain Quote Link to post

Mosby 355
I breed to put better dogs in my kennels. Always trying to get better dogs. If new one is better than an old one the old one is given to someone that needs a worker. They all gotta climb what I call the kennel ladder. 3 Quote Link to post
hack 301
the only time we breed is when we have to and they are normally just kept amongst the lads i dig with have given pups away in the past the deal being we get a pup back if it works and they line it or if they want to get rid of it it comes back to us but not any more as been let down a few times dogs sold etc Quote Link to post
Vosey 24
My motivation is that I want to breed from my bitch after next season, so that I can have another 1 or 2 similar to her, but there is one thing niggling at me, what do I do with a possible 5 or 6 other pups. I don't want them to go to just anybody (you see the adverts with pups and bitch for sale and they keep a pup back to do the same with) I dont think pet homes would be suitable and I couldn't cull the unwanted pups either. Got till March to decide what to do. Quote Link to post
CarraghsGem 92
motivation; to outcross a serious working bloodline that is too closely linebred, to bring in new qualitys to the bloodline via this outcross, to provide replacement workers. to ensure continuety of a bloodline by giving pups to people you know will work them and not pass them on if they fail to make the grade. BORDERSCOT 3,816
Replacement and improvment!!! I know of a couple who bred chocolate labs - this is going back 20 years - and they were getting £400 a piece then and they only did it to finance their annual Tenerife holiday. They went to the well too often though - caesarean section - dead pups - sterilised bitch - and a weekend at Whitley Bay. Ha Ha Ha f*****g Ha. Quote Link to post
