Get the dog castrated unless you are a very experienced dog owner, even then, accidents do happen Just be prepared to put him on practically a starvation diet if you don't want him to put on weight

Saves prostate problems which as i leanredto my cst are expensive problems to sort.Zack before he died lived here with bitches no bother just so happened a friend went on holiday i had people staying with their dog and all 3 bitches went on the break at the same time zack ended with and enlarged prostate coulnt pee etc.the bill for that one was huge

£80 for hormone jab thing

£33 for antibiotics for 4 weeks

£26 for pain relief

£23 for a pill to make him pee

£234 for overnight stay on a drip

So as you can see gets a little expensive would have cost me about £150 to chop his balls off.Having said that i wont get storm done till hes older unless theres any real big problems or i feel its absoloutely required but then id like his blood to carry on cos hes an excellent worker

Just be prepared to put him on practically a starvation diet if you don't want him to put on weight afterwards. If he's overweight already and just a pet, well, then he'll still be overweight and a pet but he won't be able to sire pups. My partner had a 5 year old dog castrated which had already sired pup. For the first year afterwards he was still very interested in bitches, but after that he took no notice if they were in season. If your dog has never sired a litter then it is unlikely he'll take more than a passing interest in your bitch when she comes in season. If his temperament isn't that great then it could well calm him down.

Do not put your bitch on the pill. Especially before her first season. Bitches need to come in season for the first time so that their bodies mature properly or there could be problems. Some will disagree with me but IMO no animal should be neutered before it has matured, and a season is part of that rise to maturity.

Most bitches don't have severe phantom pregnancies: the most that will happen is that they get a bit quieter, mammary glands enlarge a bit. It is a totally normal process and only gets out of control in some bitches who do the whole nesting, guarding toys thing. I have never had a bitch do that. The thing to do is to keep them as active as possible, don't feed more than the usual amount even if the bitch seems to want to eat and eat, and don't molly coddle them: treat them as normal.

The phantom, or false pregnancy is simply due to the hormone levels changing. Should all be over by the time the imaginary pups would be about 3 weeks old. A lot of bitches don't show any signs at all. So don't worry about something that might not happen anyway, and is obviously a long way off in the case of your pup.

Haha, thanks gaz mate, i want them both 2 stay intact if you get my drift especially the bitch! when i spoke to mum out the vets she was completly okay with the idea of keeping her intact and if i find out away to keep the dogs seperate then he can keep his bollocks aswell!

If you have to you can get the dog injected when the bitch comes in and he wont be interested in her .After a couple of months he will be back to normal.
