mangy1983 51 Posted June 7, 2011 Report Share Posted June 7, 2011 hi i just got a lee reloading kit.any tips on reloading .223 im just starting out I find that the hardest part is studying the brass even from new for defects such as little pin holes or deep scratches. The shinier you can get your brass the easier it is to study them. This applies after having shot the brass after the first time. My rule of thumb is if the inside of a scratch or pin hole is still black even after shining light on it then l don't reload it as l deem the hole / scratch a deep one. There are plenty videos on YouTube as well and if you use bit torrent there are some very good videos that you can download as well. Most of the powder manufacturers have load data on their websites but lm sure like me you probably got a lee re loaders load data sheet. I always keep to the start grain for each powder but if it has a . above .5 in it l might round it off to the nearest decimal as long as it is within the maximum grains as l find it easier. cheers Callum Quote Link to post

brno17 5 Posted June 7, 2011 Report Share Posted June 7, 2011 (edited) good luck mate glad to hear you have someone to show you the ropes. once you've got your load developed for your rifle you wont believe the accuracy. out of curiousity what make of rifle is it ? if its a 1 in 12 twist barrel try 55 grain vmax if fox and vermin is your quarry. ATB Alan. edited to add i just read your earlier post and see your rifle is a remy 700, this has a 1 in 12 twist so the 55 grain will be a good choice, lighter weight heads will work also but i wouldnt go much above 55's in this twist. cookey 1 Posted June 23, 2011 Report Share Posted June 23, 2011 hi fox head i was in the same boat as u 8 weeks ago and after sum trial and error my tikka t3 stainless light is giving me 1 inch groupe at 200 yards 60 grain vmax 25 grain powder hodgson vargon this is the only powder i tried and well i ant chaining hope this helps Quote Link to post
