sjh 0
Hi... I have a 10 month old dog that i picked up from a rescue a couple of months back, can anyone advise me to any good books on training young terriers to work, I have taught him the basics/manners etc but he needs more, i know books dont beat actually doing it but i have to start somewhere. not sure what sought of terrier he is only that he came from a traveller camp that moved on and some dogs were left behind. i was attracted to his long legged athletic build. He as started flushing rabbits out of the bush to my bulldog and last week he shot into the woods and came back covered in blood (not his own) but i dont know what he had as he was to far in front of me. I know i am making mistakes that stop him from doing what he was bred for. I race my bulldog her best time is 8.02 /100mtrs (-:which is OK if the rabbits would run in a straight line :-) My terrier on his 1st lure race I think i am more interested in ratting and working the bush rather then digging. any help would be appreciated cause i dont know jack at the mo. sjh 0
I have ordered some sean frain books from library, I guess learning from my mistakes is the best way, little un was flushing but big dog was running around like an headless chicken, so i guess i need to keep her on lead until something comes out then slip her ( I said i knew nothing). reading through some old threads to work out best and cheapest way to make a slip lead. What ever qaury you decide to work with it i wish you the best of luck thanks Rabbit slayer Edited June 6, 2011 by sjh Quote Link to post
antsa 40
Looks like a jagd terrier to me! Quote Link to post
CarraghsGem 92
not a jagd, just a mix breed terrier, maybe a dash of manchester terrier in their somewhere, should be a good bushing dog / ratter nevertheless Quote Link to post
