shushycatcher 219
I went to look at a 3/8 5/8 bull grey last nite,18 mnth old, good strong dog and not too heavy, the only thing was his front feet were quite flat.He hasnt been worked for a while due to the owner being ill, would road work bring him back up or is this normal in the bull cross. The dog was bred in oxford somewhere. Any advice would be appreciated, cheers shushy Quote Link to post
WHITEYrs4 29
In my personal experience flat feet is a load of bo**ocks! I go out with a number of dogs, quite a few of them have got flat feet, my dogs have risen feet and a few of the other dogs do and they all do their job perfect! Even in the dog racing it doesnt seem to make a difference whether they are flat footed or risen footed! Quote Link to post
shushycatcher 219
i know the dog does his job no problem,i just wanted to know if i could sort his feet out! Quote Link to post
stewie 3,387
Maybe so maybe not mate any pics of the dog? Not being funny but its impossible to say and if the dogs an adult thats running ok with no problem then maybe its just how its feet are Quote Link to post

Of course mate cut the nails down and a slow jog on road work, 3-5 weeks you will see the toes will rise. Keep the nails short. Quote Link to post
Moll. 1,770
They might well do with exercise. I got a big lad with terrible flat feet once, walked and walked him to get them better, forgot though the poor lad had never been walked for months and his pads ended up hot & swollen His toes did tighten up though, he had huge hare type feet when they were better. Bullies normally have tight cat like feet Quote Link to post
philkemp 50
plenty of road work that should tighten them back up Quote Link to post
sighthound123 31
start of with little bits of road work until his pads toughen up, then lots of roadwork and they will rise up as the tendons tighten up. The only dogs I've seen it on is ones which haven't had much road work or general exercise. But I'm new to it all and haven't seen that many so can't make a judgement if this is the sole reason for flat feet. ATB Quote Link to post
compostman 98
my yard were i keep my dogs is gravel from pups thay run up and down and there feet becume rock hard.but if a older dog cumes to my yard for the fist week thay becume sore and find it hard to walk up and down.but in time there feet get hard and then there ok.sume dogs feet will cume up a bit but if there relly bad thay will get hard but stay the same.this is ok if you run your dogs on grass filds were theres no stones in the fild.but i run my dogs in hampshire were the ground is very bad and i find the dogs with relly flat feet get broken toes and allways laid up with bad feet. MATTI 34
At 18 months old he's not fully matured/developed so i would say his feet will tighten up with road work, once or twice a week for a month or so then gradually upto every other day, Good luck & Good hunting. Quote Link to post

CorkyJohn 808
Got an 11yr old bitch here, very very fast bitch & has always had poor flat feet. Had a few injuries due to her speed but its never held her back & she can still hold her own now with her offspring. If the dog does what you require just give him plenty of roadwork then get his fitness up steadily Edited June 5, 2011 by CorkyJohn Quote Link to post

Road work will improve any dogs feet, but not to any great degree. A dog with very flat feet will always have flat feet. Quote Link to post
