Ideation 8,216
There is nothing like spotting a squater out in the middle. Carefully stalking in. Keeping the lamp on it. Slipping your dog. And having it f**k off over to the hedge because it smelled a fox. And then sitting in a field for half an hour waiting Quote Link to post

billysboots 1
im only reading between the lines here but i think only a complete novice would ask such a stupid Q i aint reading between the lines and only an idiot would post such a stupid reply, man asked a fair question some say to much lamping early on can cause daytime dogs to pull up,most lamping dogs will not smash in cover ,were as u want your day dogs not to pull up [bANNED TEXT] the course goes through hedges reeds etc,so each to their own personally will only lamp day dogs for fitness on open land. dougall 98
do you keep daytime dogs and nite time does your dogs not do day and nite prefer a dog that will hunt during day then go out at nite and lamp and not hunt up atb Quote Link to post
king squirrel 53
im only reading between the lines here but i think only a complete novice would ask such a stupid Q i aint reading between the lines and only an idiot would post such a stupid reply, man asked a fair question some say to much lamping early on can cause daytime dogs to pull up,most lamping dogs will not smash in cover ,were as u want your day dogs not to pull up [bANNED TEXT] the course goes through hedges reeds etc,so each to their own personally will only lamp day dogs for fitness on open land. this can happen as some dogs think that as soon as the quarry meets the hedge its game over like when they are lamping there is good and bad points that can arise from either starting in the day first or starting on the lamp first its down to you mate some dogs that are started in the daytime can then use there nose at night and start to hunt up so really its a bit of a catch 22 atb ks ps i know this doesnt happen to every dog but it does and can happen to some Quote Link to post
undisputed 1,664
Once more it wont make a difference to the dog...the dog will adapt if you lamp with it often enough....this isn't rocket science I dont know why folk have to make things so complicated.... 1 Quote Link to post
iceman001979 1,316
A dog should know the difference between a hare and a rabbit.Toby out off fen fever is on you tube running on the lamp and know a few people that will run there dogs before start off hare season (pre ban) to get there dogs fit but know people that wont do it because when the hare as broke into the next field the dog think its gone down a hole like a rabbit. coursing_lad 45
Tobey is past the daytime game , gets lamped on occasion for bit fitness , and fun for the old dog. People have their own views on variety subjects , do what you do , not others , ;-) Quote Link to post

Exactly. The dogs aren't as daft as some of the owners lol. You pick the ground suitable to lamp that favors the dog. Use your loaf, if your gonna run game close to sanctuary either day or night your gonna end up with a dog that gives up easily. Quote Link to post
SPOTTY BACKED BIG RACK 90
i would keep your day dogs to running in the day,and get a lamper to run at night.fact is most day time dogs are at best below average lampers, they lack heart for the bigger game and fox, sure some will have a try but after afew tumbles on the big stuff and a few bites off a foxs they turn in to what they are..... cowards. COSH 14
Some quite arogant replies on this post, and uncalled for for what was a straigt forward question. ive had different experiences, I always start my dogs off in the daytime, then move onto lamping. Some are fine at both, others more suited to one or the other, but more often than not if they are obedient and keen they should do both Saying that last year i gave away a collie bred bitch that failed at night, but was half decent in the day, she became choosy with her runs, and pulling up etc, which in my mind is a lack of drive in a lurcher. Not acceptible to me, but lucky for her she is just what a good friend of mine wanted, and he is very pleased with her abilities. Quote Link to post
