anyone know what original this is?

It looks a bit like a model Original 38 I had for a while as a youngster John. There's usually an Original Logo stamp, together with a makers model/number and spec stamping at the rear of the cylinder, if I remember rightly. The one I had, had a black stock made of Bakerlight heavy plastic, like old GPO telephones, but the action and overall appearance was just like this, I think.

 

Bloody lovely rifle. Powerful and accurate and superbly well-made for those days. Possibly even illegally powerful, but, in those happier times when you could get a shotgun licence for ten bob (50p!) over a post office counter, the Police didn't seem to worry about an air rifle going a pound or two over.

 

Not like now... (sigh...)

cheers lads, found the number under a nice bit of rust, and its a model 36.

 

it shoots well tho, nice trigger and seems accurate so far, but its defo getting a strip and rebuild.

one of the lads who services springers at my local RFD's has kindly offered to show me how to strip and service it(it'll further my bid towards self sufficency) so hopefully( :blink: ) i wont make too much of a hash up of it...
