24th ANNUAL ALL IRELAND CHAMPIONSHIPS

Recommended Posts

Nice too see a working terrier class in the line up. As for the other classes should dogs and bitches be judged in the same class? Me thinks not as if it was me judging it would take a mighty fine bitch to beat a dog therefore think bitches should have a class of their own. Maybe just in the more popular classes such as the black dogs.

Black Dog Enthusiast,

I disagree - these things go in cycles. I judge at IKC Ch Shows and KC Open shows - primarily gundogs ( and mostly golden retrievers). Four years ago when I judged Goldens at a champ show - the dogs were markedly superior and my Best of Breed winner was a dog. Eighteen months ago at a champ show - the bitches were markedly superior and BOB was a bitch. She went on to be dogs of all sorts of breeds in the Group.

Earlier in the year at a KC open show - the bitches were again better than the dogs and the bitch gpt the BOB.

When I am judging 'the glamour factor' that dogs often have over bitches is the last factor I consider.

i like to see a veterains class at shows i can show my 9 year old 3/4 greyhound 1/4 collie e cant compete against the younger dogs anymore really

good luck with the show, i have a crossbred terrier worth bringing to a show, but it is impossible to show him in a class with full borders, i can not see the logic in that class "border or crossbred"

a very good point, I can not see how any one would put terrier cross and collie cross in the one class there should be a bull cross class and there should be no further pandering too bsl it does not apply and never will, terrier cross class for wheaten, irish and bedlington cross terriers, the collie crosses should have their own class too, I have also for some time thought there should be a purpose bred racing class for the lurchers that are bred for sheer speed under racings condtions not being divisive or derogatory but many are now specialised for this task alone. I wonder will anyone ever master mind a way for the regular types of lurcher to have a chance to compete amongst themselves when they have little chance in a straight race against purpose bred whippet greyhounds which are sheer speed bombs, I dont have the answers but someone might.

hello albert just read the CMW there. why have you a picture of greyhounds should it not be a picture of working lurchers. everybody knows CHINA is a greyhound and what about the new dog on the scene REBEL.

twiggy ------rebel is a litter brother to mine, ronnie, who is , whippet x grey--x greyx borzoi x irish terrier ,

Denned,

Thanks for clearing up Rebel's breeding - I thought his unusual markings may have come from a Borzoi influence. Tommy 'Borzoi' Agnew a well known KC judge who judged all over the world and All Ireland Championship twice would have confirmed this probably at first sight. Tommy was a great judge of a dog and I remember him going over the lurchers at Shanes Castle in an excelent fashion.

Do I here an apology coming coming?

Albertj

probably not albert---- i assume they're away back under their stone to think of another wind up , ha ha ha

Denned,

Has your dog similar markings to John's?

The silence on the apology has been rather deafening!

Albertj

it has albert however no news is good news, they might just have been silenced, much to everyone elses joy.

albert ronnie is a silver brindle all over ----stuart

OK rebel isnt a greyhound but what about china and storm.

Skinny,

Tulleyed pointed out that there was an anomoly in the joint terrier and collie cross class - so we have ecided to split them.

Fair point on the racing - again will have a think about this - problem is where to draw the line. Suggestions welcome.

John and /or their breeder can answer this. I am not familar with Storm - but my personal viewpoint is that China does not look like a pure bred greyhound. China has been accepted all over the UK as a lurcher - that's good enough for me.

Good decision to seperate the collie & terrier cross lurcher class , i also think bull cross should have a class

of their own as you have two totally different types of lurcher in the ring with the terrier & bull not to mention

propably in the access of 20+ lurchers of both types in the ring as one class, just a suggestion A.

Storms breeding from memory is greyhound/borzoi/irish terrier. Anyone even questioning his breeding doesn't know too much about lurchers in Northern Ireland. Storm is probably one of the most famous lurchers ever to come from Northern Ireland, an absolute legend who continues to live on in his offspring. China's breeding, whippet/greyhound has been questioned before. As Albert has rightly stated she has raced at lurcher shows all over the UK and Ireland.

Albert, if there was enough interest for a class for any type of lurcher dog over 8 years of age or similar would it be put on. There are lots of older lurchers which attend the shows, but are not entered, or are left at home as they don't stand a chance against the younger dogs. Just an idea.

According to one dictionary "famous-known about by many people". I never seen the countrymans weekly article but i have heard and read much of Storm. Looking back over the years i cannot think of another dog with as little greyhound blood in it as Storm that won an All Ireland racing champion title, but i may be wrong on that one.
