Unusual scope...

Recommended Posts

We have a rifle for sale (don't ask I blame the wife), but the scope has me bamboozled, perplexed, puzzled, intrigued even.

It is a Nikko Stirling, but it is well wierd (technical description)! It has a dial that selects different reticle patterns. It is also has red and green illumination to the reticle. The magnification is 3-9, it has a 40mm fixed objective lens. Any ideas? Please???

Have a look, a prognosticate, but please, what is it???

I've never seen one like that before, Mike. I'm guessing by looking at the way it's mounted on the rifle that it's got a fairly short eye relief so I doubt it's ment for full bore rifles.

No idea!!

Edit to add... It does look quite old, 80's I'd guess by the style of it :hmm:

Andy I never mounted it on the gun, long story. I have never seen one like it either, the dial on the side switches reticle patterns, the dial on the top of the scope by the eyepiece is the red or green reticle illumination! Just wierd, the patterns change, if no rabbits get happy with the fingers and have your own private kaleidoscope of colour and shape I suppose. Hunter fascination toy???

Mid -90's I think - called the Nikko MRE - Multi-reticle-something or other. They did the 3-9x40 and a 1.5-5x20 IIRC - I saw one of the 1.5's on a .308win, it was used for driven boar.

A mate's got one on one of his rimmies too - quite nice, but the crosshair seemed a wee bit thick for my liking.

Er right, only red illumination, you need the illumination on to see the cross hairs!

So not kaleidoscope, but got a hole range of wierd crosshairs, must be some sort of rimfire or crossbow thing, never seen anything like it! I will stick to my Hawkes!

I bow to your much superior knowledge. It is a Nikko Sterling Multi Reticle Electronic scope, apparently rare! One of the very first IR scopes on the market and the 3-9x40 was the king of them all, mid-late 90s release date! Just damned wierd! Seem to be very popular on rimfires! Apparently a damned good ratting scope (allegedly)! Hooray, now I know what it is, still none the wiser really, other than it has pretty patterns that switch over!

Bugger.... All the money I wasted on chemicals in the 90's so that I could watch 'pretty patterns that switch over'... and I could've just got myself one of these......

ARSE!!!

Mary says that for £50 you can relive your youth, just don't get too excited whilst eating your kebabs (whatever that means)!
